Thursday
"You have to tell him today, Tae," Sicheng said.
Taehyung was sat at the breakfast bar whilst Sicheng stood opposite and watched him eat.
"I can't," Taehyung mumbled, shovelling more food in his mouth to stop his brain from concentrating on what Sicheng was suggesting.
Sicheng sighed and looked at the ceiling. "I know this is kinda my fault and all, but you took this whole 'date' thing way too seriously, bro."
Taehyung knew exactly what he meant and he was right. That made him mad. At himself, mostly, and a little at Jimin for being so damn likeable. "I know I did," he admitted, pushing the bowl away from him, no longer hungry. He'd shoved so much in that he could feel the butterflies in his stomach turn to lions. "If I tell him... What do you think he'll do?"
A silent pause ensued in which the only sound was that of Spongebob coming from the living room where Yesung was watching it. Finally, Sicheng pulled a sympathetic smile - the first one Taehyung had ever seen him do. "I don't know, Tae. But I'll be honest. I don't think he'll be happy about it."
Taehyung walked slowly to school after dropping Yesung off at kindergarten. He wanted never to get there. He wanted school to be like one of those things you see in the distance that never gets any closer - like a mirage.
Unfortunately, he did eventually end up in front of it and, having been noticed by Jungkook, could no longer turn around and walk back home.
Jungkook immediately began chatting and Taehyung zoned out. He'd learned that it was often a good idea to zone out because he wouldn't stop talking until the bell rang anyway. Jungkook too had learnt not to expect interaction so he just talked for the hell of it now.
For all of his lessons before lunch, his mind was stuck on his tricky predicament and he got virtually no work done. The Korean essay, which he had "forgotten" to hand in, was three lines long.
At lunch, he was so preoccupied that he walked into five people in the canteen and Jungkook waved a hand in front of his face more than twenty times.
"What the hell is up with you today?" Jungkook demanded, bored of talking to himself at last. "Are you ill?"
Taehyung blinked slowly. "Uh, yeah..." He agreed, not entirely sure what he was agreeing to. He hadn't been listening.
Jungkook sighed and stood up, dragging Taehyung up by the elbow and packing his untouched lunch away. "Come on. I can't put up with talking to a cabbage any longer. I'm gonna ditch you with Taeyong hyung and then I'm going to find Yugyeom."
"Wait wha-" Taehyung protested feebly, allowing himself to be dragged to Taeyong's office.
Jungkook knocked on the door and entered without waiting for a reply. Taehyung stood outside, a little unwilling to walk in so boldly. It was just as well he did.
"Jungkook? What do you want?" Taeyong asked.
"Taehyung isn't well, hyung."
"Taehyung? As in Kim Taehyung?" A voice Taehyung knew all too well asked. His eyes shot open but his feet were glued to the floor.
"It's Doctor Lee to you at school, insolent brat," came the bored reply. "And why didn't you bring him with you?"
"I did. He's out here," Jungkook turned around to look at his friend and was greeted with what in a comedy film would have been a cloud of dust. He was gone. "Okay, he was out here... Where the hell did he go this time?"
"This time?" Taeyong raised an eyebrow.
Jungkook nodded with confusion. "Lately he's all distracted, acts weird and disappears on me."
