My body was on fire with fireworks, dancing underneath my skin. I burst into tears as he held me. And threw my arms around his neck. He hesitated slightly before wrapping his arms around my waist and burying his face into my hair.
I heard a voice ahem and I turned around and wiped my eyes. Evan's arms were still around my waist and I looked up at him with a slight smile on my face before looking straight ahead into the eyes of Amanda Cromwell. She was the most annoying, stuck up, self-absorbed person at our school.
Amanda wrinkled her nose up in disgust when she saw it was me Evan was holding. Scoffing she stated, "eww look what the cat dragged in. Melissa. How...charming it is to see you again." Abruptly she turned her gaze back to Evan. "And you. You can't be possibly be interested in this tramp. If anything, you should be spending time with moi. At least I smell good, or at least better than her. I mean, you can just smell the perfume she uses. It's called a la skank!" The growing crowd around us was filming our exchange on their phones.
My eyes go wide with anger. I feel arms tighten around me, and the tone he used is livid. I looked up as he started speaking.
"Oh, like you haven't slept with anyone? From what I've heard, you've slept with half of the football team. I've also heard that you're notorious for throwing parties that send people to the hospital from fights and alcohol poisoning. So, who is the - what did you call it? Skank? I know my sweet Mel, and she would never ever sleep with anyone she didn't love. So back off." His glare was scathing. It was if he was barely containing his rage in his eyes.
"Oh I see. You're hers, aren't you? The little mouse has got you wrapped around her little finger, doesn't she?" Amanda smirked, and laughed evilly. She turned and snapped at the curious onlookers and snapped, "don't you all have somewhere to be? And turn those off! You have no business filming us! Even though I am perfect, perfection has to be witnessed in person to be fully appreciated." She walked away and I gawked at her audacity and arrogance. Wow.
I blinked, astonished. Evan sighed and I looked back up at him. His control was back and now he just looked tired.
I turned back to him and rested my head on his chest. "I'm okay now. I'm fine. Fine," I say more to convince myself than him.
