Hermione's POV
I lay still as Madam Pomfrey gave me my medicine and checked for a concussion one more time. She was keeping me here in the Hospital Wing until further notice, even though I insisted I felt fine. I really did feel fine. I just wanted to leave this place, it was boring and the bed was constricting. I do wish Harry and Ginny would visit more often, and Ron, I guess, but they have classes. No sooner the words thought in my head, the doors of the Hospital Wing opened. I saw familiar heads of messy red and black hair, followed by the wavy red locks I knew all too well.
"Harry! Ginny! Ron!" I called out in relief. I felt a smile take over my face, and they grinned back at me.
"Hey, 'Mione! Thought you'd be out of here by now, didn't we?" Ginny laughs.
"Madam Pomfrey insists I stay here, even though I feel perfectly fine! Ugh!" I sigh. I frown, my brow creasing. Ginny just laughs and shakes her head.
"So, Ron, where did you run off to yesterday?" I look at Ron, whose been standing silently by the bed the whole time.
"Well, I was just running around to waste energy, and I ran into Malfoy on the fifth floor, heading into the Room of Requirement. He looked upset, or troubled. I caught my hand on the doorway and dragged him into the room and....uh....nevermind." Ron drops the explanation, going bright red.
"Ronal Bilius Weasley, please tell me you didn't fight him. Please." Ginny demands.
"Okay, okay! I wanted to know why she screamed his name, and he called her a mudblood, and I blew up at him. He said I couldn't take him even if I tried, so I pounced on him. He threw a few punches at me, and I at him. I may or may not have given him a black eye...."
"Ronald!"
"Oh, Ron! Good for you, you stood up to Malfoy!"
"Oh my god, Ron! I explained why I screamed his name, and I could honestly care less if he calls me a mudblood, it doesn't matter what he says. He's vile and cruel, I don't care about him or his words. I can't believe you both hurt each other! Ugh." I whisper-shout. His mouth drops open, his eyes bulge.
"Stop defending him, Hermione! He hates you an-"
"I'm not defending him, I'm trying not to get you in trouble! I don't want you in detention! I'm trying to protect you! Did you not hear my calling him vile and cruel?"
"I did, but you were defending him! Stop playing stu-"
"Ron! Hermione! Stop!" Ginny intercedes in our argument, glaring back and forth between the both of us. "I knew this would happen if we came here, you two would yell. I knew it! Well, since Hermione can't leave, Ron, I think you should leave and cool down. Come back if you want to, buh-bye." Ginny drags Ron to the door and slams it in his face. By this point, I had tears in my eyes. I loved Ron, but sometimes he could so stupid.
"Thanks, Gin. I guess." I blinked back the tears as Ginny came back to my bedside, her face gradually returning to her normal state. She nodded, clearly too fed up to speak. Harry rubbed her back soothingly, and kissed her forehead. Ginny bit her lip and burst out,
"Hermione, I'm going to Madam Pomfrey, and getting you out of here. The day is boring without you." Ginny squirms out of Harry's grasp and marches off to Madam's office. She yanks the door open without knocking and shuts it loudly. Even though we are across the room from the office, we hear fierce whispers from Ginny and the strict voice of Madam Pomfrey arguing.
"She's perfectly fine, let her out! Seriously, Madam Pomfrey, you can't keep her cooped up here like an animal!" We hear Ginny shout, clear as a bell through the door. Madam mutters something back and Ginny simply replies, "Thank you, Madam." She burst through the door once more, her face alight with happiness. I eye her carefully, wondering what happened. She smiles widely, "Madam is letting you out of the Hospital Wing right now!" She bounces up and down and spins. Harry grabs her and tells her to calm down. I should have seen this coming, Ginny always gets her way. I mean always. Ginny, along with the help of Harry, pull the covers off me and help me out of bed. I jump up, and smile. I'm finally free, finally.
"Let's go, I'm starving. I haven't had a real meal in ages." Of course, I was exaggerating, but it really did feel like ages. Ginny grins and we make our way slowly out of the Hospital Wing. I savor the steps, worried that Madam was kidding and she'll lock me back in there.
"Oh, c'mon! Move faster, Hermione!" Ginny giggles, grabs my hand and breaks into a sprint. I laugh along with her and Harry follows close behind us. We run and run and run, and then Ginny dives out of the way, letting go of my arm. I smash into something hard-no, someone- and I fall on top of them. My eyes find strikingly familar, gorgeous, icy blue eyes. I hear a gasp, and I am enveloped in a spearmint scent.
"Granger! Watch where you're going!" Draco lightly laughs, pushing me off him, and extending his hand out. I gratefully take it, my cheeks burning. Draco's eyes are alight with amusement at the sight of my blush. "Are you alright?" He whispers, low enough for only me to hear. Harry is pulling Ginny off the ground, glaring at Draco.
"Fine," I whisper back. "You?" He merely nods.
"Malfoy," Harry spits. "Why are you in the Gryffindor hallway?" His voice is full of venom, pure hatred.
"McGonagall wanted to speak to me." Draco replies coldly. And then a head of bright red flames comes barrelling down the hall.
"Malfoy."
