(A/N PLEASE READ. This chapter contains the subjects of depression, and death. Just so ya know.)

Dogs

(Y/n's POV)

I put my phone on the table, as yet another salty tear rolls down my cheek.

"Hey, hey... It's ok."

Finn says in a comforting tone. He cups my face and wipes the tear away with his thumb. I kept replaying that night in my head, only causing me to cry more. I notice people around me leaving the building... It must be pretty late. When I can feel almost no presence in the room, I feel a soft hand on my shoulder.

"You alright, Y/n?"

I look up to see Natalia, she has a tear track down her left cheek.

"y-yeah, I-m F-f-fine..."

She looks at me with a smile. It's not a joyful smile, but a pity smile. She lifts her hand, revealing the chocolate-covered watermelon slice in her palm.

"Thought this might make you feel a little better."

I smile at her. I take the piece and eat it whole. She smiles one last time before heading out to her car. I turn back towards Finn.

"Sh-should we go n-now?"

I ask in my post-crying hiccuping voice.

"Sure! Um, wanna walk home?"

He asks sweetly. I could use some fresh air.

"S-sure."

I wipe one last tear from my face as we head out the door.

The walk was pretty quiet and peaceful... for 5 minutes. Out of the corner of my eye I see that god damn dog again, lurking menacingly in an alley way. My breathing gets faster and heavier as I replay that night for the sixth time. I feel the familiar wetness of tears leaving tracks down my face again as I move my hand, desperate for something to hold.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------(Finn's POV)

The walk is peaceful. After 5 minutes or so, Y/n stops in her tracks.

"Y/n?"

She doesn't respond. I don't think she heard me. I hear her breathing pattern speed up again. Her hand moves in it's position. Damnit she's hyperventilating again. I grab her hand, only to realize the dog lurking in the corner of an alley. I pick up a rock on the side of the road, and throw it in the dog's general direction. Not to hit it, just to scare it off. I grab Y/n by the shoulders, forcing her to look me in the eyes.

"Y/n, it's okay. It's gone."

I say reassuringly. She takes a few breaths and starts crying again. She's still breathing really heavily, which makes me nervous. She squints her eyes a bit, then stumbles and leans her weight against the brick wall. She stumbles again, before falling forwards into my arms.

Shit.

I pick her up bridal style. Luckily, my house is only two minutes away.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Once we reach my house, which is thankfully empty, I lay her down on the couch. I sit down on the floor next to her, and place my hand on hers.

This girl. She's killing me.

After twenty minutes or so, Her eyes flutter open.

"Finn?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------(Y/n's POV)

My eyes flutter open.

I see a familiar face with deep brown eyes. Unforgettable.

"Finn?"

"Hey, Y/n."

"W-what happened?"

"Um, you fainted. And I carried you home."

He said the last part quietly, but I heard it.

At first I had no clue what he was talking about. But then I remembered.

"The dog..."

I whispered underneath my breath.

"Yeah... Y/n?"

"hm?"

"Erm, why are you so scared of dogs?"

"Well..."

I feel an all too familiar knot in my throat, signaling tears.

"I-when I was 11 years old..."

This is harder than I thought.

"Me, Jess and my mom were having a family game night. It was our first since dad left.."

Finn just looked at me with pitiful, and curious eyes.

"And there was this big dog outside. I didn't care at the time. It was 'just a dog' after all. But about ten minutes later, this dog smelled the meat in our fridge, and I guess it thought the smell was coming from us... and..."

I take a deep breath.

"And it broke into our house, through the window. And my mom stepped in front of us, and the dog... attacked her."

I see a tear run down Finn's cheek.

"It started biting her, and scratching, and... eating."

At this point I start sobbing.

"A-and Jess grabbed my hand, and p-pulled me upstairs. A-a-and Sh-she locked us in the g-guest room, and she dialed 911... The p-police showed up at our house. And we were told to stay in that room, until everything was- y'know... cleared up. Our mother was pronounced dead an hour later. And I cried for five hours. And I g-got really d-depres-sed, I started cutting myself. I-i still have the s-scar from a deep cut that I left two days after..."

I take off my jean jacket to reveal a faint, horizontal scar on my left arm, near my wrist. Finn's face melts into pure pity, and he gently holds my hand.

"J-jess took care of me ever since..."

That's when I lost it. I start full-out sobbing and crying. I don't know how loud I am, but I don't care. Finn wraps his arms around me pulling me into a hug. One hand on my lower back, while the other on the back of my head. I just cry.. I'm not sure how long it's been.

"Y/n, it's okay... you're okay.."

Finns says, obviously trying to cheer me up.

After a little while, I feel my eyelids getting heavier, and I start to fall asleep in Finn's arms.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I ACTUALLY LOVE DOGS, OK DON'T KILL ME!

I don't know what to say about this chapter, I cried... again.
