A/N: This one-shot was set in a story setting that I'm working on currently. The real story was written in Chinese and would be longer. Simple background of the story as following: Hugh and Merissa were elementists---- people who could control elements which were, in Chinese culture, minerals, wood, water, fire and earth/soil. They were under attack from the dark sides, and they were the only two that could save the world. Hugh could control fire while Merissa could control water. Others were not elementists. They could not control elements, but they were like magicians that could shot curse, spells, etc. I twisted the meaning of the lyrics a bit, but I hope you can still enjoy the one-shot!

What's the trick? I wish I knew

I'm so done with thinking through all the things I could've been

And I know you wonder too

All it takes is that one look you do and I run right back to you

You cross the line and it's time to say F you

Merissa's POV

"Hugh Cantrell, shut up," I said weakly, "I'm not in the mood to hear your jokes."

I looked at his brown eyes---- I had seen sadness, anger and fire burning in them, but I wonder were they my imagination. He always seemed playful and happy, like he'd never seen disasters or felt pain.

"C'mon, Merissa, have you heard this joke----"

"Cantrell!" I yelled at him, a small stream of water leaking from my hand, my voice echoing in the tunnel, "Have you ever---- have you ever realise that we are at war? What we do matters to the whole world. You---- you never seem to take it seriously. Why are you always so childish?"

His smile froze. "I took it seriously."

"Oh, you did?" My face turned crimson. I didn't even know why I was cross. Maybe I was cross at him all along. Maybe I was mad at him because he let me worried every time---- which was rare---- when we separate to different roads. Maybe I was mad at him because he never seemed to take anything seriously. Maybe I was mad at him because the weight of saving the world fell on our shoulders and he never seemed to carry it. "Did you know... did you know how much I worried about you when you went to the tunnel alone? Without telling any of our teammates? Did you know----" The words stuck in my throat like a fish bone: 'did you know you could've died?'

He was stunned, looking like a goldfish. I turned my head and muttered, "Oh well. Let's continue moving, we still need to save the world."

What's the point in saying that when you know how I'll react?

You think you can just take it back, but shit just don't work like that

You're the drug that I'm addicted to, and I want you so bad

Guess I'm stuck with you, and that's that

It seemed like the tunnel was endless. We kept walking, and all we saw was darkness and dim light showing the spikes of the rock. Faint sound of fighting, swords falling on the floor, shouting, yelling and crying of pain could be heard despite the thick wall of rocks. I hold myself tighter and pinched a spot in my arm, telling myself to concentrate. We're still warm, still safe, yet people out there were dying and fighting for us. Oh, yea, we were having childish arguments too! Awesome.

I quickly shot a glance at him. He, too, were crossing arms too, pinching a spot on his arm. A soft spot in my heart melted. We were just the same when it came to these little body languages. Yet, I immediately turned my head back. I hated myself for kept getting pissed off at him and forgiving him far too quickly. More crying were heard from the outside. I pinched myself harder. Walk faster, Merissa Nickleson! I told myself, you need to save the world! I gripped my necklace tightly. Hugh and I had both had one. A red charm---- the power source of Hugh---- was hung on it. If one of us were injured, we could feed each other the charm and the one injured will have power to fight again. It was kind of like the roots of the tree---- if your power source/ charm ended up in the wrong hands, it would be destroyed and you would lose all your power. I had a sudden thought to just throw the charm on the floor, but I simply gripped it tighter and hoped it would give me power and bravery to fight on.
