"Ok class, open your text books to page 23 and do problems 4 through 10."
It was the first day of school and Mrs. Norton was already having our Calculus class do work. All my other teachers just went over their class room rules and we had the rest of the class to ourselves. Mrs. Norton was going to be one of "those" teachers.
Suddenly the door swung open revealing none other than Luke Hemmings.
Every head in the room turned to stare at him. Even Mrs. Norton
seemed surprised to see Luke in her class room."I don't believe I saw you on my role Mr. Hemmings." Mrs. Norton stated, clearly annoyed by his intrusion.
"Yeah well now you will have the pleasure of seeing me more often Mrs. Norton." Luke smirked and handed her a slip of paper.
After reading over the paper Mrs. Norton nodded and asked him to take an empty seat. He strolled through the room looking at the other students as he passed by. Some leaned away from him, from either fear or disgust. He suddenly turned back to my row and walked down the isle. I kept my eyes on him as he approached my desk.
"Hey sweetheart." He whispered, winking at me. I rolled my eyes and shook my head as he took the seat directly behind me. The rest of the class went smoothly and Mrs. Norton continued on with her lecture. I planned on Calculus being one of my hardest classes, especially being that math is one of my weaker subjects. Although I tried my best to focus on the lesson entirely, I could still feel Luke's eyes boring into the back of my head. It was unnerving.
As soon as the bell rang I grabbed my bag and practically sprinted out the door. The lasted thing I wanted was to have another run-in with Luke. The rest of my classes before lunch were great. I didn't have anymore classes with Luke, but Calum, one of Luke's friends, was in my history class. Either these boys were secretly smart in certain classes, or their parents payed for them to be placed in advanced courses.
Lunch finally rolled around and after grabbing a salad and fruit cup, I searched the cafeteria for Bella. I spotted her near the back of the cafeteria, with her back to me, sitting at a table with Stephanie and Lou. As I approached their table I caught the end of the conversation.
"Should we tell her?" Lou asked.
"Yeah, i guess so, I mean she doesn't have a crush on him like most girls at the school." Bella answered.
"Who doesn't have a crush on who?" I butted in. All three girls turned around to face me with their eyes wide like they were caught."Oh hey Eva!" Stephanie piped up trying to ease the awkward tension.
"Hey Steph! How was your summer?" I asked, setting my tray down and taking a seat at the table.
"Good! I went to see my mom in Maryland and spent most of my summer over there."
"That sounds more fun than what I did." I laughed.
"What did you do?"
"Sat in my room and watched Netflix or went shopping with Paula." I shrugged. "So, who doesn't have a crush on who?" I asked again. They looked at each other raising their eyebrows, trying to see who would spill the beans. Bella looked at me and sighed.
"You."
"I what?" I questioned raising an eyebrow.
"You don't have a crush.."
"On?..."
"You don't have a crush on Luke."
"Well duhh!" I laughed. Why were they acting all worried? Of coarse I didn't have a crush on Luke! He was definitely not my type.
"Why are you clarifying it?" I questioned.
"Well Lou overheard him talking to his friends..."
"I overheard him talking to his friends, you know, Calum, Ashton, and Michael." Lou began. I nodded.
"Well, Luke said he was sitting behind you in Calculus and he thinks you hate him. So he told his friends that he was going to personally go out of his way for you. He said you might be his greatest challenge. Whatever thats supposed to mean."
