Chapter One

Familiar Faces

"All around me are familiar faces

Worn out places, worn out faces"

*Two Years Ago*

Flashback

"Hahahaha! Colson stop!!" I scream as Colson tickles me.

I kick my legs around, "C-Colson s-s-stopppp!" I sputter out of breath.

He stops and just stares at me. "What?"

"I love you." He whispers.

I stare at him for a moment, before a smile creeps onto my lips.

"I love you too, Colson."

He lowers his mouth onto mine.

He slowly trailed his hands down to my pants.

"Can I?"

I bit my lip and nodded.

*Present Time*

"You remember where your room is right?"

I nod my head.

My Dad also nods his head, "Good."

I go upstairs and open the first door on the left.

"Oh! I'm sorry!" I say, covering my eyes and leaving the room.

I hear them chuckle.

How stupid am I? It's the room on the right.

I quickly enter the room. "Who was that?" I question myself.

After I get some of my things settled in, I go downstairs to retrieve Cayden from my Dad.

I walk into the living room where my dad, his wife, their two kids, and the guy I walked in on earlier are.

"Hey RaeLynn, come join us, we're watching a movie," Melissa, my dad's wife, says.

I smile, took Cayden from my dad and picked an awkward seat on the couch away from everyone.

After a while, Melissa took her kids to their grandparents, so it was just me, my dad and the guy.

The guy went up to his room, and I was about to go to mine, but my dad started talking.

"So what started all of this RaeLynn?"

"All of what?" I ask.

My dad rolls his eyes, "You know what I'm talking about."

I shrug my shoulders.

"Is it because of Zach?"

I look at him, hard. "No." I say coldly.

Zach was my brother, he was seven years older. He died when I was 14, That was the worst day of my life, I still pray and pray and pray that god will change his mind and send him back and take me instead.

Why was wasn't it me?

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, dad," I say annoyed, "it started before that."

"I'm just trying to help, RaeLynn. I wouldn't know, ok?"

"Yeah because you got rid of me right when Zach died. I wouldn't expect you to know anything, dad."

I added a lot of emphasis on the word dad, meaning for him to understand I don't consider him deserving of that role.

"I had to RaeLynn. I wasn't in a good place, nowhere near suitable to care for a kid after I just lost one-"
