Chapter 6 - New Guy

I opened my eyes. I was in the centre of a room, tied to a chair. My mother was standing in front of me, crying. "Mum!" I shouted.

She didn't respond, and the tears continued running down her face. Suddenly my dad walked in the room. He looked at my mother, then at me. In his eyes I saw hatred,anger. He took my mother's hand, and walked out of the room. Darkness clouded my eyes and a ringing sound was hurting my ears. Then I passed out.

I woke up in a cold sweat. I hit my alarm and sat up, my head pounding.

My mother walked into my room and gave me a hug.

"Are you okay? I heard you twisting and turning all night." she said.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just about to get dressed for school."

"Okay. See you downstairs."

"Okay."

I exhaled. I couldn't tell my mum about my nightmares. They restarted ever since my dad came back from his business trip.

See, my dad doesn't really like me very much, I think. We never do that father-son bonding and we only talk to each other if one of us wants something.

I love my dad though, although I wish that he could show that he loves me.

I got dressed for school, packed my bag, and went downstairs to the kitchen to get myself some breakfast.

My mother was standing next to the toaster, and my father sat at the table, drinking coffee.

"Morning," I said.

"Mornin'." my dad said.

I looked at him, surprised. Usually in the mornings, he doesn't talk to me.

"What's up with you?" I asked suspiciously.

"Nothing, Jayden. Even if something was up, it's none of your business."

There we go. Back to his cold-hearted self. I grabbed an apple, a granola bar, and a bottle of orange juice.

"I'm going now." I said, hurt.

I walked out of the door and headed for school.

"Help!" I screamed.

My cousin, Andrea, chased me around the house with a toy dart gun.

"Stop, Andrea, or I'll be late to school."

I tripped over one of her many toys and fell on the floor. On my face.

She is staying with us for two days, while her mother is out of town. I think that she dumped her daughter on us so that she could go partying.

I stood up, went to the bathroom, and looked in the mirror. I had a huge gash on my head. "Andrea, please don't leave your toys on the floor again."

She stood outside the door, sucking on her thumb. "Lex," she said. "When you fell, I got your phone and called the number called Mr.Emergency. I told him that you fell over, and he said that he's on his way."

SHE CALLED THE AMBULANCE?

I heard a siren and rushed downstairs.
I walked outside and saw a paramedic running towards me. "Why are you standing up? Let's get you to a stretcher."
