Chapter 5
"Robyn, wake up." Cedar lightly shakes me. I open my eyes and see sky. It's still dark but the sky has a gold lining to it. I sit up and rub my eyes, "What's wrong," I asks in a sleepy voice.
"Nothing. The sun is rising and I thought you might want to see it," he tells me. Why would I want to see the sun rise? I really wish he would have let me sleep. I really don't care to see the sun come up.
"Have you ever watched the sun come up," he asks.
"Nope," I tell him. Giving him the same one word response he gave me several times last night.
"Oh my gosh, really?" No I'm lying to you.
"Yes really. I usually don't get up till about seven or eight." He laughs a little. I don't really understand why.
"Oh yeah," he says,
"I see you and that guy running in the morning." The guy. He is not just a guy.
"That guy has a name. It's Navy," I say in an irritated tone.
"Oh," and he says no more.
I crawl towards him and lay my head on his shoulder. "I'm sorry," I tell him. He doesn't talk. I really didn't mean to upset him. He is the only one who has taken my feelings into account the whole trip.
"Come on don't be mad at me," I whine.
"I'm not mad. I just. I don't know. I guess I didn't think he was that important to you," he tells me.
How did he not know I cared for Navy. I never said it but everyone can tell. I don't know what to say because I do care for Navy but I need to say something. I need to fix things with Cedar.
Cedar turns his head towards the front of the train. I just close my eyes and try to block everything out. He shakes me again.
"Look," he says. I sit up and turn towards what he is looking at. The dark blue sky is slowly being over powered by an orange gold color. The flat green land extends all the way passed the nose of the train. Every living plant has turned to an unnatural green. Even the brown bark on the trees has turned a strange green color. I have never seen anything more beautiful.
"Thank you," I whisper. I have seriously never seen anything like it.
"What for," he asks looking at me.
"For this. For showing me this. It is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen." He smiles and turns back to the sun.
We watch the small sun become a full round circle in the sky. The gold color disappears and so does the odd green color. The light blue sky appears framing the yellow sun.
I sit up and look at him. He does not look back at me. He just continues to look at the sun and the sky.
"Do you think we should get back to your rooms," I ask him.
He thinks about this, "Maybe." Well maybe is a very straight forward answer.
I lay down and close my eyes again. I really want to go home. I want to just jump off the top of this train and run all the way home.
I miss Hunter. If I was back home right now Hunter would be crawling into bed with me right now. I never thought I would miss being pushed out of my bed but I do. I do miss my baby brother.
"Hey, Robyn do you see that?" I sit up and look in the same direction Cedar is. The light blue sky is no longer touching the thick green ground. There is something blocking it. Something huge and close.
