Book 2: Cedar McGarth

Chapter 6

"We're here," Serine tells everyone.

I am a little dizzy from the fall but I am managing to stay upright. Briar-Rose sits up and crawls over to Robyn. She pulls her into her.

"Is everyone okay," Robyn ask.

Everyone nods. Serine stands and wipes his pants off. He sits down in the chair he was planning to sit in.

"Everyone needs to sit somewhere. We will be instructed shortly," Serine says.

Robyn slides under a table keeping Briar-Rose in her lap. Cedar sits on top of a different table and I sit in a chair beside Serine. We are all silent.

After a moment of sitting still we are all a little impatient. Robyn lets out a sigh. Everyone looks her way but me. I ignore it. As soon as everyone stops looking at her a small square of light appears in front of each of us.

The light dies down showing an orange haired woman. She is smiling and wearing a bright pink frilly shirt. She is a little freaky. I don't think anyone knows what to think of her.

She begins to talk. "Welcome boys and girls. You have just entered Politica. We all welcome you. You are about to go meet many wealthy and powerful people so please be kind and courteous and on your best behavior. We hope you enjoy your stay. The doors will open soon and this will be the first time you will be presented to the city of Politica. Thank you for your time and remember this is a great honor."

Wow I didn't think they could make this sound any more retarded. Of course they had to pick me my last year. I almost got away with being a special child but no my last year of school they choose the children early and they have to choose me of all people.

They already took one girl I loved and now they have the other, but I guess it never really mattered. She barely knows me and I sadly know every aspect of her life.

I feel like a stalker. I just can't help myself. She is so different from anyone I have ever met. I didn't even know she excised till after the whole closet thing. Now she has me in her grasp and I don't know how to escape but I really don't think I want to.

Robyn Jones. A girl with fiery hair and deep green eyes. She even looks interesting. In a beautiful way though. I am completely mesmerized by her and she doesn't even really notice.

"Cedar are you okay?" What? I zoned out.

"Yeah I'm fine," I tell the air.

"Okay everyone stand now," Serine tells us.

We all listen and stand up. Serine grabs my arm and pulls me in front of the thresh hold.

"We are going to line up and this is how I want you to walk you. Remember smiles all around. I don't want ant\y of you top look worried. It shows weakness," Serine tells us.

He pulls Robyn behind me and then Briar-Rose and Navy last.

"So just walk out smiling and it's over," I ask.

"No. You need to talk to the people standing around looking fancy. They will basically be voting on you."

Well that's a confidence booster. Not. I am not good at talking to people. I mean it took every once of my power to talk to Robyn and well I know her.

I turn to Robyn and smile. "You should do great," I tell her. She smiles and nods but doesn't speak.

I hear a small voice say no in protestant. It's Briar-Rose. She is now beside Robyn unwillingly holding her hand.
