Chapter 2
When I come to I see the ceiling pasting by. It's not moving fast but it's moving. It takes a moment but then I feel arms under my knees and around my back. I can see who it is. I close my eyes again a center my breathing. The movement is making me a little dizzy so I try to concentrate on the hands under me. It doesn't talk long for me to realize whose arms are under me. It's Navy of coarse.
I remember the feeling of his arms. Sadly this isn't the first time he has had to carry me somewhere. The last time he carried me we were at the shooting range. We had been shooting small caliber weapons. Mostly handguns. We were seeing who had the best shot. It was me of coarse but the second time I went to shoot at the target and he yelled trying to psyche me out. It worked. I completely missed the target and the bullet hit the wall. That wasn't the end though. The bullet, instead of imbedding its self into the wall like it was suppose to, bounced back and logged itself into my shoulder. The blood was gushing out of the wound. I really hate the sight of blood and the fact that it was coming out of my arm like that made me so sick I pasted out. I was only out for a minute or so. Navy had picked me up and was carried me to the hospital. Luckily it was close.
I open my eyes once more. Navy notices me this time and begins to speak. "Well that was a shock wasn't it now." He is teasing me. I'm going to get him for this when he puts me down. "At least we get to go home. I don't know about the other two children," I tell him.
His face hardens and becomes serious. He looks down at me. I can detect a tiny bit of sadness in his eyes. "I'm not coming back," he says in the most emotionless tone I have ever heard come out of him. "What! Put me down right now!" I'm sure everyone in this part of the hallway can hear me screaming. He drops me on the floor. It hurts but I ignore it and jump to my feet. "I have known you for seventeen years and you never told me! I'm supposed to be your best friend! I thought you told me everything!" I can't breath I'm screaming so loud. No one tells me to be quite though. That's a little odd but I ignore it too. "It never came up," he says in a low voice. He has to be joking. That is one of our most talked about subjects. "So when I first told you about Hunters powers that wasn't a good time to tell me?" He doesn't answer because he knows his answer will just make me even madder. "Calm down. We need to get going. I'll explain everything later. I promise but right now we have to get going. They are going to send someone after us if we don't hurry." He was right. They would send a big man from Politica to come retrieve us. These guys usually don't mind hurting you if you cause them any sort of trouble.
I walk ahead of Navy. I really don't want to look at him right now. I'm kind of disgusted by the fact that he never told me. That is a major part of his life that he should not have let out. I reach the head masters office first. Briar-Rose and Cedar are sitting in some chairs against the wall near the door.
A man with blonde almost white hair greets us and ushers us to chairs next to Briar-Rose and Cedar. I sit on the far end as far from the rest as possible. I only want to talk to Navy. I want to be alone with him. Running like we were this morning. Racing him through the center of the city. Tripping him if he gets to close to catching up. I just want to be with him and no one else. I look over at Navy. He is sitting there as cool as a cucumber. I wish I could mimic what he is doing but I know the terror is still prominent on my face. I'm not scared for myself. I have nothing to worry about. In a little over a week I will be back home without my best friend. I'm scared for Navy. I am even slightly scares for little Briar-Rose and even Cedar.
"You four look very promising. We may have a couple special children from this rotten old place this year. It's been a long time since this school has had any good ones," the man with the white blonde hair says. He's right we haven't had a child choose to live in a couple of years . Every child that has powers and comes from here almost always either refuses to join the great powers or they kill themselves within the first week.
