It's been two more days and Poe still hasn't come back. Needless to say everyone was starting to get a little worried. Until an X-Wing was spotted arriving at the base.
"Commander Dameron is back! Commander Dameron is back!" Word spread quickly and soon everyone knew.
"I heard General Organa is going to demote him."
"Why didn't he come back with the rest of the pilots?"
"What if he's a spy for the First Order?"
I tried to ignore the whispering but what was I to expect standing in the middle of the crowd of people. Esma dragged me with her to see the ruckus and I ended up seeing Mage. It occurred to me that they never met, but they got along really well.
"Where's Poe?" Esma asked.
"I think he's with General Organa." Mage rolled her eyes as someone pushed her. "What's the point in waiting here?"
I shrugged.
"We just wanted to see what was going on." I said.
"Well when Poe comes back he's gonna go to his room, not here."
"Wanna go there instead?" Esma looks annoyed at someone behind her.
"Definitely." Mage and I say.
The three of us make our way out of the confused crowd, I can't believe how many people want to know what's going on with Poe, it's not like the fate of the Resistance is in his hands.
Mage leads us to the pilots sleeping quarters, somewhere I've never been, even though it was close to the medics quarters.
"This is Poe's." Mage stops outside a door identical to all the others, but then again all doors everywhere are basically the same.
"Let's wait then." Esma says and leans against the wall.
We talk for about 10 minutes before I hear loud beeping.
"BB-8!" I shout happily as I see the little droid rolling quickly towards me.
I go on my knees and hug him as he beeps happily about his mission, and going to Naboo with Poe. I listen intently to all of it.
"Wow, that's amazing." I say.
"Yea, it was." A male voice speaks and I look up.
Poe stood in his dirty jumpsuit with his arms crossed and holding his helmet. His hair was messy and everywhere and he had a tired smile as he looked at me. I jumped to my feet and practically jumped on the pilot, who panicked and dropped his helmet to catch me. My feet dangled in the air as I held onto him, he was sweaty and smelled but I didn't really care. After a few seconds he gently placed me on my feet and let go of my hips and I let go of his neck. Poe smiled at me.
"Good to see you too, Stitches." Poe laughed a little before looking up at the two other people.
He walked over to Mage, they did a quick handshake thing.
"Commander." She saluted and smiled.
"Captain." He returned her gesture and then turned to Esma.
"I'm not hugging you when you're that dirty." She teased and Poe laughed.
"Hey, Esma." He said simply.
"Hi, Poe, why'd you take so long?" Esma pushes herself off the wall. "We we're starting to get worried."
"About that," Poe moves towards his door and takes out his keycard. "I have something for Stitches."
Everyone looks towards me, I look back at everyone.
"Well don't stare at me," I put my hands up in surrender. "I don't know what's going on."
Poe opens the door and motions me inside. I don't move though, because this is very unexpected. Also, Mage and Esma were there too, and Poe was inviting me into him room. Esma definitely sensed my awkwardness, and like usual, she came to my rescue. At least, I think she did.
"Well I'm going to get something to eat." She spoke and then turned to Mage. "Care to join?"
Mage, who picked up on the signal pretty quickly, agreed.
"Definitely." She said and the two girls walked off.
Poe then turned towards me again, I looked at him. He tilted his head towards the open door. BB-8 rolled towards him and into the room.
"You coming?" He asked hopefully.
"Uh..." I started, but then Poe pouted and I sighed. "I guess I am."
I walked through the doorway and into Poe's room. His room was just like mine, only mirrored and there was an orange and white charging station for BB-8. His room was personalized, unlike mine, and the theme was X-Wing. Also, I think his bed might be bigger than mine...
"I'm going to shower." Poe said as he dug around his closet. "I'll be five minutes."
"Don't you have something for me?" I ask.
Poe pulls out some clothes and takes a few steps towards the bathroom. He turns around and winks at me.
"Five minutes." He says and shuts the door.
I'm not sure what to do now, BB-8 was in his charging station and shut off. I heard the water turn on so I decided to take a seat on Poe's bed. I felt awkward, but I didn't know why - Poe didn't feel uncomfortable in my room. So I decided to lay down on his bed like he did, only I was on my back.
His bed was more comfortable than mine. I sprawled my arms out, his bed was definitely bigger. I stared at the ceiling. What did Poe want to show me? Was it important? My eyes drift to the wall where I see a poster of a ship - but Force knows I have no idea was model it is.
I hear the water stop running in the bathroom and I sit up again, crossing my legs underneath me. A minute later the door opens and out walks Poe, barefoot and only wearing a pair of grey sweatpants. He ruffled a towel through his hair to dry it and closed the door behind him. My eyes looked him over, mostly his large scar on his left arm and chest. I think I was trying to see if it might be infected, but it wasn't.
"Are you inspecting the scar?" Poe looked at me in disbelief. My eyes move to his and I nod, in response he scoffs and I'm confused. "You have me standing shirtless and you're looking at the cut?"
I blush and look down.
"Well I've seen you shirtless before if you don't remember." I said and played with the grey bedsheets.
Poe sighed and placed the towel on the back of his desk chair. "Get up, Stitches."
I obey and stand up. Poe moves back into the bathroom for a second before coming out with a black box. He takes a couple steps towards me and hands it to me. I look up at him expectantly and take the box to inspect it. It was small, the size of my palm and had a thin gold line on the right side.
"Open it." He prompts and clasps his hands behind his back, rocking on his heels slightly.
Again, I listen to him and open the box. A gasp escapes my lips. Sitting in the center, surrounded by a tangled gold chain, was a sunflower charm. Tears come to my eyes as I look at the necklace. I don't think Poe realized the impact he had.
"Oh no, why are you crying?" Poe panicked. "There weren't many necklaces to choose from on Naboo, I-I can return it if you don't lik-"
I interrupt him by wrapping my arms are his waist and burying my face in his chest. His arms hesitantly wrap around me.
"I love it." I whisper.
