"sunflowers still grows at night"

Eddie quickly shuffled out of his mother's car whilst she was getting the bags. He stepped onto the grass and took a long look around his new neighbourhood.

Most houses had tress surrounding them or little gates blocking them off from the rest. Some had small gardens where various sorts of plants grew. Eddie twirled around to catch a glimpse of any flower at all. There wasn't any. So, Eddie sighed and waited for his mother.

"Eddie-bear, can you get a few of the bags!" She shouted, almost too sweetly at him.

"Yes mommy!" he shouted back and rushed to help his mother with the bags, whilst Richie smiled and stared at his new neighbour through the window. He sat on the window sill, his hair all dirty and his lips chapped like usual. He admired the small boys features. He stared at the way his curly hair fell over his eyes, just like his own and the way his flowery shirt untucked itself from his red short when he bent down to do his shoe laces. Then Richie flicked his cigarette away out if his window, closed it and slid down to his bed.

In no way in hell Richie's going to catch feelings. No. Not again.

He reluctantly went down stairs after spraying his room and himself with cheap aftershave. His mother was slouching on the couch with a cigarette in her hand and an empty bottle of wine laying on the floor. His dad was at work. Or probably fucking some whore. Not like Maggie cared, she only needed his money.

"God, fucking hell Richie. Sort yourself the fuck out, I'm inviting the new neighbours for dinner" she scolded him, a disgusted look on her grey face.

Fuck.

"Y-yes, ma'am" he gulped. "Do I really have to be there?" He questioned, still standing in the doorway of the living room. He grew smaller when he saw his mother turn her head painfully slow and stare at him coldly.

"Don't you fucking question me, Richard" she snapped angrily. "Get the fuck to your room and get ready" she shouted and Richie nodded slightly. He ran back upstairs, forgetting what he went downstairs for anyway.

The Kaspbraks accepted the invitation from Mrs Tozier when she showed up at their door, welcoming them and bragging about how lovely the neighbourhood is. Well, more like Sonia did, not Eddie. Because Eddie didn't actually want to go. He would have much rather sit in the sunflower field behind his house.

Richie got ready. His sweatpants were substituted with jeans and he changed his top into a flannel. His hair remained unbrushed, because, honestly, Richie was quite fond of his curls. So he went downstairs, welcomed with an unfamiliar smell of homemade food. He knew this was the only time he would have the opportunity to eat a real meal. Most of the time, he'd go to sleep with an empty stomach and an empty mind. He also knew, that this was the only time his parents will act somewhat decent to him. Maggie and Wentworth were abusive. But they weren't stupid.

He sat down at the table, which was a dark wooden colour and had pretty, thin doilies surrounding the edges. A fork and a knife lay silently alongside a white napkin on each side of the table and Mrs Tozier was placing the food down on the table.

"Richie, quick get the potatoes! Get the fucking potatoes, for fuck's sake!" She said, rapidly, burning her hands on the hot plates. Richie quickly raced to the saucepan and turned off the stove. And as he was about to arrange the potatoes onto the plates, the door bell rang and Richie nervously walked to the door. Opening it, he was met with a fat, but presentable woman alongside a pretty boy, with curly, short hair, who wore a pink windbreaker, blue jeans and a yellow striped top. His eyes were big and questioning and his lips wore a few freckles on top.

"Uh, hi. I'm Richie. You can come in" he said and widened the door, before sparing a glance at the short boy, who smiled at Richie which made his palms sweat a little. The two took their shoes off, and while still standing in the corridor, Mrs Tozier appeared from the kitchen, welcoming the two. Then, leading Sonia Kaspbrak into the living room for a chat and telling Richie to take the boy upstairs.

Richie's heart started beating a tiny bit faster as he was thinking of what he'd say to the shy boy.
