Reunited

Jade's POV

I was wheeling my chair around in the garden when I overheard Cassandra talking to Rapunzel
" I might know someone who can help" she said " I still think you're unfair about Eugene. But, um, who is this friend of yours?" She asked
"His name is Varian, and he's some kind of wizard"
My eyes widen at the name, " I know Varian, I could go with you to see him" I said excitedly
" Are you sure? Some say he's dangerous" Cassandra warned
"Oh please, he's my best friend, he's harmless" I reply sassily.

Time skip to Varian's lab

"So this is where Varian lives. It seams cozy, in a I-wish-i-had-said-goodbye-to-my-loved-ones-before-i-left kind of way." We walk into the entrance as I try to remember where the trap is.
"Just watch your step Raps and Jadey " Cassandra warned while I roll my eyes. Suddenly, Rapunzel stepped on the tripwire.
"A boobytrap! Raps everything's gonna be oh!" Cassandra screamed
"WHAT DO YOU WANT" said a deep voice that I knew to be Varian.
" um, hi, so sorry to bother you, sir, I wanted to ask you about my hair because you're such a magic expert." Rapunzel said nervously
"Magic! I do not work with magic" he grumbled before taking his mask off, "I mean, technically it's not not magic it's alchemy, but yeah don't sweat it." He corrected
" uh, I got it, so what is this?" She questioned, looking at the goop surrounding her ankles.
"Oh, it's a chemical compound of my own design, thank you" he said, I let out a cough " Jade? Your here too? I mean technically it's our design" he corrected making me smile "so we have a bit of a critter problem out here and through the miracle of modern alchemy we have found a humane way to solve the problem" he explained putting his arm around my shoulders.
"This is riveting but can we get out of here?" Cassandra snarked
"Where was that neutralising particle?" He mumbled to himself. I threw my neutraliser to him
"Thanks " he said  "I'm so sorry, your highness" he apologised to Rapunzel.
"Your highness? Wait, you know who I am?" She asked
"uh, how could I not? Just look at your hair, your highness" he laughed
"oh please, just Rapunzel" she said humbly.
"Wow, really? Ok, so, fantastical stories of your hair returning have spread throughout Carona . People say it's magic, but personally I don't really believe that. Now as you have probably guessed, I am a man of science; specifically alchemy." Varian was interrupted by Cassandra
"Alchemy, we know. Now listen, kid. We need your help but let me make something clear, what happens here, stays here. You got it." Cassandra grabbed Varian by the shirt. It makes me slightly angry but I hold my tongue.
Rapunzel lays back on the table and Varian starts inspecting her hair with a magnifying glass. I look over his shoulder.
"Oh yes. This, this is... it's very... long. Oh no! Don't worry, your highn- I mean, Rapunzel. I am sure that I, Varian and my amazing sidekick, Jade, can unlock the mystery of your hair with the power of science!" Varian leans on the stand of his magnifying glass and I duck out of the way, but see him get hit. At first I giggle but then I notice a small steam of blood trickling down from the crown of his head. I see him going down in the side of my vision. Before he can hit the floor, I grab him and pull him onto my lap.
"Don't worry guys, this has happened before" I muse whilst petting his hair.
