“What the hell?”
Geno fixated his eye on the familiar object that suddenly landed on the black floors of the save screen. It was familiar, yes, but yet, at the same time, Geno felt uneasy about it. How long has it been since he had felt the soft leather furniture under his ass?
“Do you like it?” Reaper circled around Geno. He observed the skeleton that had the ever-present red scarf wrapped tightly around his neck. Reaper smiled. It was always a pleasure to visit him when destruction and chaos didn’t call for the God of death. Reaper floated in the air with his hands behind his head and only an eye socket open, watching Geno intently.
Geno laid his hand on the couch. “Is this what I think it is?” He sat down on it, bouncing up and down curiously.
“Yeah. Found it somewhere in an abandoned place. Figured you like to have furniture in this place.” Reaper gestured to the black save screen. “Something to make it feel more like... home.” he added.
Reaper floated down and sat next to him. He looked exhausted. There were dark circles beneath his eye sockets, and he wasn’t being flirty like he always was. Geno sensed that something was wrong. He glanced at Reaper and found him fighting to keep his eyes open.
“Reaper?” Geno asked. “You still there?”
Reaper snapped to reality. “Yeah. I’m here.” He yawned.
“Everything okay?”
He nodded. “It’s just that the mortals are having a war in my universe. There have been way more numbers of death than usual.” He sighed. “I guess I’m just not used to doing so much work...” he trailed off, too tired to complete the sentence.
Geno chuckled. “That’s what you get for being lazy all the time.”
Reaper turned to him. “I’m not lazy. When I’m not working, I spend time here with you.” He protested. Reaper yawned again and laid his head down on Geno's lap.
“H-hey!” Geno exclaimed, surprised. “Reaper!”
“Aww c’mon, Geno.” Reaper whined as he closed both if his tired eyes. “Just this once. Do it for me~” he purred.
Geno sighed. On any other day, he’d push him clear of the sofa. But it seems like today has to be an exception.
Reaper's breathing continued to get even. Geno was wide awake. He often catches himself staring at Reaper. His smile, his hands, his cloak. Geno didn’t know why, but he took Reaper's hand in his own and held it close.
Any mortal would have dropped dead from Reaper’s touch. But not him. Geno didn’t know whether it was because of the save screen or the determination still stored inside him.Either way, the skeleton didn’t die, although he made direct contact with death himself.
Reaper’s sudden voice jolted him from his thoughts. “So I need to reap a thousand souls, come to you all tired and worn out, bring you a couch, and lay down on your lap for you to finally hold my hand?”
Reaper opened an eye socket and smirked. He took Geno’s hand to his mouth and kissed the back of it.
Geno was flushed. But he didn’t want to pull away either. “Shut up, Reaper.”
“Oh, but that’s the one thing I can’t do, Geno dear~” Reaper cooed. Geno rolled his eyes as the red blush began to spread more intensely on his face.
Reaper chuckled. “Anyway, I need to go.”
“What?! Now?” Geno blurted out. Reaper looked at him and smirked. “Oh, am I going to be missed? Don’t worry, darling, I’ll be back.” Reaper winked.
But Geno didn’t want him to go. Not yet! He frowned for a second. Then, an idea popped in his head. Geno hopped off the couch as Reaper stood up and smoothened out his cloak.
“Hey, I figured out a way to shut you up.” Geno said from behind him.
Reaper turned. “Oh, yeah?” he asked provocatively.
Geno nodded. “Oh, yes.”
He stepped forward and kissed Reaper on the lips.
He put his arms around his Reaper’s neck as the other skeleton wrapped his around his own waist and pulled them closer. Geno melted into the kiss, and while he didn’t want to admit it, Geno enjoyed it very, very much.
They separated after a moment. Silence surrounded them as they stared into each other’s eyes, each awaiting a response from the other.
Then, softly, Reaper whispered, “Well, you certainly did find a way for me to shut up.”
Geno laughed and gently pulled Reaper towards his new couch. “And I think I know how to make it last~”
