When she opened her eyes after a quick nap, she blinked a few times and smiled brightly seeing Daniel standing in front of her.
"Hey, how was your day at school?" She asked.
She reached out to him and caressed his cheek as he giggled.
"I got the special chair today!"
"You did! That's wonderful!"
"And teacher had everyone in the class draw a picture of me with them and a thing they liked doing with me. See!"
Daniel shoved the small paper booklet towards her and Alice laughed softly as she flipped through them.
"Wow, looks like you have a lot of friends in your class. Have you shown daddy yet?"
"No."
"I think he'd love it. Go show him."
Daniel took the booklet back and ran down the hall, calling out for Tom. Alice could make the two out in the distance as Tom entered from the garage. He picked up Daniel into his arms and walked down the hall, complimenting the booklet.
"There are a lot of kind words in here about you. You must be a good friend to all of them."
"Yeah! Teacher said I like to help everybody."
"That's a good quality to have. Don't lose it, okay." Tom told him.
"I won't. I promise."
Once in the doorway, Tom placed Daniel down on the floor and rustled his hair.
"Now, go put your backpack and your things in your room then we'll go do your homework."
Tom chuckled as Daniel rushed into his room. Tom made his way over to Alice and sat down in the armchair.
"Feeling better?"
"Yeah. Just a bit groggy."
"Do you want me to make you something to eat?"
"Maybe just some toast with ham." Alice replied.
Tom stood from the chair and walked over to Alice. He placed a kiss to her forehead and brushed her hair behind her ear.
"I also called mum while I was waiting for Daniel and she's all good to watch them Monday evening." Tom told her.
Alice nodded her head as she closed her eyes. Soon, Daniel came running down the hall with Emma and Alice groaned as she went to sit up on the couch. Tom stopped the two before they got close to Alice and walked them into the kitchen. As he was cooking their dinner, Alice slowly approached the doorway, smiling as she watched Daniel and Emma drawing on some pieces of paper while they waited. She then drew her attention to Tom who remained focused on the food.
"It smells good." Alice commented.
She laughed as Tom flinched, placing his hand over his chest.
"You can't sneak up on me like that." Tom laughed.
"It's not my fault I'm too good at it."
Tom caught the slight smirk on her face as she crossed to the table. She sat down next to Daniel and looked over their drawings. He then handed her a crayon and she joined in with them. Tom smiled brightly at the sight before turning his attention back to the stove. It was moments like these that made him forget all the bad and the ugly memories they had gone through. Nothing else mattered in his eyes when his family could come together and be happy with one another. When he got ready to serve the meal, Alice bit the inside of her cheek as she asked Tom to get her a plate as well. Alice placed the drawings at the end of the table as everyone gathered and ate their dinner. Afterwards, they gave the two a bath before putting them to bed. Alice then went back to clean off the table as Tom glanced down at the drawings. As he pushed a few to the side, he found one that Daniel drew of the whole family. He placed his hand over his mouth, trying to hide his excitement as he sat down.
