I thought about what they had said, I knew what I had to do. I know it's the right thing to do, but I didn't want to do it. Was I selfish for thinking that? I kept replaying in my head what had happened yesterday and I kept coming to the same conclusion; that I had to do it, I had no choice, but to do it, it was either millions dead or just my death. What Victor Laurent had said last night about me wanting to make atonement for what I had done. Well this was my chance to do exactly that. I knew that if I did this that the people I know, the people that I love, I would most likely never see them again. But I knew if I didn't do this it would be my hands who murdered them...
Two months later...
"After giving it much thought, I came to a conclusion; my answer is I will do it. Under these conditions: anyone who is innocent will get a full pardon for all actions they committed while being under the authority of Kogot. And I will decide who's innocent when this is over. And they will have the option of living a normal civilian life if they choose it. And if you aren't OK with these conditions, you can forget about it." I knew they would be desperate enough that they would except these conditions.
"OK. Fine we except your conditions. And here is the file you will need to study to get in." As Victor handed me the file. "I do need to go over some things with you first though. When your death has been faked, for you to get in and "become a part of Kogot, you have to pin down someone for one minute. You do get to choose who it is. I would suggest this man." As he handed me a picture of the man. "His power is being able to turn into solid metal. They will let you choose a weapon. I would suggest using the siren but alter it so that it can electrocute him."
"Are you asking me to murder him?"
"No. It won't murder him, it will only knock him unconscious for a couple of minutes."
"OK. How long do I have till I'm dead?" I say with a bit of sarcasm in my voice.
"A week. We will provide everything you will need. And you will die in a car accident. Oh and you won't have anyway to contact us. It's for the better. When you have collected enough Intel you can come up with a way to contact us. The best of luck."
"Yeah hopefully I won't die in the process."
"I wish we could chat longer, but I have places to be. You have a good afternoon."
"You too." I say as I shove the file into my purse. And then I stand up to leave. On the drive back to my home I think about what we had just discussed. I arrive at my apartment and enter in. I walk around my whole apartment realizing that this is one of the last times I will be here. The rest of the week flies by; the day that I "die" arrives. It's five thirty in the morning when I wake up, but I immediately get dressed and drink a cup of coffee from my keürig. I grab my purse and my , placing it in my . I then head for the door leaving my apartment and hop in my car. I drive to Victor Laurent's private airport. I park my car and grab my purse and I walk over to his plane.
"Hello, Scarlett how are you doing?" Victor asks me.
"For being dead I'm doing pretty well. And how are you?"
"I'm doing well thanks. And according to the world your not dead yet, in about twenty minutes you will be 'dead'." We then get on the plane and head for a in North Carolina. I look at the TV as it shows my face and then the reporter continues to say that.
"Scarlett Petrov was killed in a tragic car accident on her way to work and the body was too bloody and mangled to even recognize. We will get back to you soon when they have more information."
"Wow." I say "it really does look like the real thing."
"And that is just a taste of how good Kogot is with faking deaths." Victor tells me. We then arrive in the middle of nowhere which happens to be Kogot's base. When I get off the plane I see nothing except trees, but this one spot it catches my attention because it is ever so slightly shimmering then Victor walks right there and then two metal doors appear. We go inside then this man named introduced himself. "Hello Victor, hello Scarlett. My name is illusion and she is . Scarlett we are glad to hear that you would be willing to join us. Now hopefully you will have what it takes to be able to join us. But first I will show you around the place." We walk down a hallway then make a right into another hallway. The hallway has about twenty doors on each side. We then stop at a door about mid-way through the hallway, and illusion opens that door. Inside I realize it's a bedroom with two beds one on the right and the second is on the left. There are two nightstands and the floor is cement and the walls are a grayish white.
"Scarlett this will be your room and your roommate's room and her name is-"
"." I hear a new voice and I turn to see who it is and I see a girl about my age; not the tallest but it definitely looks like she could take on anyone. "Hi, I'm Blaze as I'm sure you gathered. What's your name?" She asks.
"I'm Scarlett Petrov, I recently arrived. I guess we are roommates."
"Yeah that could be a bit dangerous, I've kinda gone through eighteen mattresses. I burned them while I was sleeping. I use to have a roommate till I burnt too many mattresses then she was a little nervous about sleeping in the same room as me."
