Newt was sat, gazing into the flames as they camped out in the scorch. It was one of the few nights where he was alone, and able to think quietly to himself.

About the People left in the maze, about WCKD, about her.
He thought about his wishes he had for her, he promised her a better life.

He promised that one day they would walk out of that Maze together. Hand in hand. Though sadly, that was not the way things had turned out.

Newt couldn't help but blame himself, the circumstances of her death. He felt could've been avoided. And it haunted him

A presence next to him, caused him to turn to acknowledge them. It was Thomas. He was offering Newt a sad smile.

Thomas didn't know what was going through his friends mind, he could only imagine. But the smile was a sign of gratitude towards he blonde boy. A thank you for being one of his best friends.

"What you doing up Tommy?" Newt asked. Thomas just simply sighed.

"Can't sleep, what about you?" Thomas replied. Newt looked at the ladder.

"Y/N." Was all he said.

"Who?" Thomas asked. Of course he would ask, the poor girl died before Thomas arrived.

"A girl, from the Glade." Newt continued.

"But I thought Theresa was the first girl?" He asked. Newt shook his head.

"No she wasn't, Y/N was." Newt sighed. The words painful as he thought of her.

"What happened to her?" Thomas asked.

"It's a long story." Newt answered. Thomas looked up at the sky, sighing quietly.

"We've got all night."
