Your POV

I handed Minho his food. Smiling when he winked at me. Newt was next.

"Thanks Y/N." He smiled. Which is very rare these days.

It had been a week since I was assigned my job. Frypan and I get along great. He is a great dancer and we have a great laugh at the bonfire every night.

But Newt seemed to be becoming quieter. He still talked and joked around with the gladers. But there was something missing.
Frypan smiles as I untied my apron, seeing as my shift was over.

"See ya later." I called, walking over to the table Minho, Newt, Alby, and a runner called Bradley. I sat next to them smiling.

"Hey how's life." I asked, Alby nodded.

"As good as it ever will be." He said. I patted the table trying to lighten the mood.

"So, the bonfire tonight! Who wants to be my dance partner?" I asked.

"Why don't you ask Frypan, you seem pretty cosy." Newt mumbled. I looked at him.

"What?" He looked up and glared.

"Nothing." Was all he said before stalking of.

"I swear to god that guy is bipolar." I huffed, looking at the awkward boys. Bradley spoke up.

"I'll dance with you tonight Y/N." He smiled. His dimples poking through.

"Great! Well I'm off to get a shower!" I skipped off. The boys laughing to themselves as I turned.

As I was skipping through the Glade looking like a right shank. Newt stopped me. He still had a scowl etched on his face.

"Gally wants you by the homestead. Something about your new hut." He said, turning to leave. I grabbed his wrist and jerked him back.

"What is your problem?" I glared at the boy.

"What?" He spat. Those brown eyes glared right back at me.

"You've been giving me the cold shoulder, treating me like klunk. What did I do?" I flared my arms around as I explained. He opened his mouth to reply.

"Look, I get it you're new, so you don't know, that when I don't talk to you, or "give you the cold shoulder"-" He used hand gestures. "It means I don't like you!" He yelled, a small crowd was starting to form.

That hit me with a pang in my heart. He doesn't like me? But he was laughing with me two days ago.

"You know what?" I walked up close to him, our faces were close. "You can dislike me all you want, but that won't stop me from trying to be your friend. From making sure you are okay everyday." I said.

Yeah I know, it wasn't the best speech. But I know deep down that he is not okay.

"Hey, is there an issue?" Alby walked over. I backed away from Newt.

"Nothing, Just getting to know each other." I sighed. "You know, the typical ice breaker." I smiled at Alby, and walked off to look for Gally.

"What on earth happened?" I heard Alby exclaim. But Newt's answer was put of earshot.

"Hey Gally! You called?" I shouted when he came into eyeshot.

"Yeah, well we finished your hut. It's nothing too big. But-" I cut him off by hugging him. I looked over his shoulder to see Newt glancing at us. I ignored his stare and thanked Gally.

"Thanks you're the best." I smiled. He is one off the few people who actually made me feel welcomed, and I'm thankful for that.

"Well I'll leave you to get ready for the bonfire, I'll save you some off my famous drink." He smiled. I scrunched my nose up but smiled nonetheless.

"I'll see you at the bonfire." I waved him off.

————Third POV ————

The bonfire was in full swing, Bradley and Y/N were dancing like they had arranged. Everyone was laughing, smiling, enjoying the end to a tiring day.

All except Newt, who was glaring at Bradley and he and Y/N got close. He kicked himself. Why did he have to push the girl away, all due to her being friends with other guys.

Y/N though she was laughing on the outside, she just couldn't get Newts words out off her head.

I don't like you!

Yeah she was new, it would take a while for people to adjust to a girl in the Glade. But everyone seemed to not care. So why did it bother Newt so much?

"Hey Y/N!" Gally called the girl from her thoughts, she stop dancing with Bradley who disappeared off somewhere while she spoke with the builder. "I got you a drink." He handed her his homemade drink.

Y/N scrunched up her nose but to it nonetheless and drank it, slowly adjusting to the taste.

"Again, I'd like to thank you, for the hut." Y/N said graciously. Gally shrugged.

"Honestly-" He was cut of when roads of cheers erupted. Causing the two to turn and see Bradley underneath an angry Newt. Who was continuously throwing punches.

"Say it one more time I dare you!" Newt's voice echoed through the Glade, overpowering the cheers. He spat the words venomously at the boy cradling a broken nose.

"Newt! Enough!" Alby pried the blonde boy away from the fight. Holding him in a tight grip. Everyone was silent. Minho stood in between Newt and Bradley. Ready to stop whoever might attempt another punch.

"Both off you are to spend a night in the pit." Alby yelled, Bradley stood with the help of Y/N who looked solemnly at Newt. Who didn't even attempt to meet her gaze.

He had really messed things up...
