Hayley had spent the next few weeks training with the T.Rex and establishing a bond that became stronger over time. She loved what she did and her team was just as amazing. Her and Samantha had definitely grown close over time and became good friends.
"Yes!" Samantha exclaimed when Hayley came out of the cage. It had been a long day once again but Hayley had gotten close to Rexy and the dinosaur was able to follow her every command. It had taken some time but patience was definitely a virtue.
Hayley laughed, "Damn straight. We finally did it."
Samantha hugged Hayley, "You did it. It was so amazing to watch her follow your commands. Not once did she overstep your commands. You were a team out there and it was beautiful to watch."
"Thank you. I'm proud of the progress we've been able to make. Now, we continue to do what we've been doing. She might be responding to me now but we have to establish mutual respect and figure each other out. It'll get easier but damn did we do it." Hayley grinned.
Samantha shook her head in disbelief, "I still can't believe it. Why don't you take the rest of the day off? It has been a long day and you deserve some rest."
"I might just take you up on that."
Hayley had decided to go to her usual spot, on the other side of the island where no one really came. There was a beautiful river and the scenery was gorgeous. It was secluded and allowed her to clear her head.
Hayley had always preferred to write so when given the chance, she would write letters to her parents and friends from back home. It allowed her to reflect on her experience on the Island and what she had accomplished in the short time she had been there.
"What are you doing out here?" A voice asked from behind Hayley. When she turned around, there stood a handsome stranger. He was tall, strong and sure as hell knew how to carry himself. He looked at the trainer curiously as he had never seen her before.
Hayley smiled, "I'm Hayley Mitchell. I'm the T.Rex trainer."
Owen nodded as he sat down next to her, "I'm Owen Grady and I work with the Velociraptors. You don't sound Asian." Owen's eyes widened in shock when he realised what he had just said, however, Hayley didn't take offence as she had heard worse.
"I'm adopted." She replied.
Owen grimaced slightly, "Sorry. How is it working with a T.Rex? Most people would consider you absolutely insane."
"It's fine, I've heard worse. It's amazing. Sure it's scary but we have a bond built on mutual respect. It's taken some time but she knows I'm not going anywhere and that she can trust me. It sounds weird. Most people just don't get it." Hayley sighed.
Owen shook his head in understanding as he took in what she said, "I get it. It's how I'm able to work with the Velociraptors. It takes time and patience and slowly they begin to respect you. You're right, it's not easy but someone has to do the job."
Hayley smiled, "Thank you. That means a lot coming from a fellow trainer."
"Without meaning to sound rude, how do you know Claire? She's not exactly the nicest person around?" Hayley could see that he was genuinely interested. Claire had already told her about their date and knew exactly why they didn't get along.
"Family. Claire's sister married my brother. I've know her for years. She's family, and family you put up with. I know she's not the nicest person but I'm not either, I guess that's why we get along so well." Hayley smiled.
Owen grinned at the brunette, "Something tells me we're going to get along great."
"I guess we'll have to see about that, Grady."
