The next morning at the script reading, Sadie came and sat next to Finn, prompting eyebrow raises from the others. Millie got up and said, "Um, excuse me, miss, you're in my seat!"
Sadie immediately got up and apologized, while the others burst out laughing.
"I'm just kidding! You'll learn to expect our jokes! Please sit. You should feel really special. Finnie doesn't usually get along with new people."
Sadie smiled.
"Anyways, I'm so happy there's finally another girl here. These buffoons hate shopping, but I want to take you to my favorite mall, they have the cutest dresses!"
Sadie nodded, "That sounds good!" She turned to look at Finn who gave her a raised eyebrow smirk.
Later that afternoon, while Millie and Sadie were out shopping. The boys were hanging out by the pool.
"Hey Finn!" shouted Gaten.
"What?"
"Dude, where were you last night, with Sadie? What was up with that."
Finn smiled, remembering. "We were just outside, meeting one of her friends."
"Yeah right," said Noah, "Seriously? For two hours?"
"Okay, fine, we may have gone to the park." Finn added.
"Dude...it's so clear. You have a thing for her!" Caleb said.
"I do not! You guys are crazy. We just met yesterday, plus, like I need to get to know her first. And what if she doesn't like me in that way? What if we're just meant to be friends?" Finn said.
"Woah, woah, calm down there, buddy. We're just playing with you, don't get so defensive," Gaten laughed.
Finn let out a sigh, followed by a smile. "She's definitely special though. I mean, I've never felt so comfortable with another girl, that quickly before."
"Yeah, that's what we noticed too." Caleb pointed out.
Just then Millie and Sadie entered the pool area.
"Gentlemen and gentlemen," Millie proclaimed, "I introduce to you, the gorgeous Sadie Sink."
She stepped aside and revealed a shy Sadie. She was wearing a beautiful peach sundress. Her hair was straightened and her makeup done. She looked amazing.
"Wow, Millster," Noah said, "You did a great job with Sadie's makeover! She looks great."
"I know, I know! I'm the best. Now wait for me guys, I'm going to go up and change into my bathing suit!" She ran into the hotel.
Sadie found a beach chair and sat down on it. Caleb slid up next to Finn in the pool, "Sooooo...." He swooned.
"Stop it" said Finn.
Caleb kept nudging and raising his eyebrows, until Finn got out of the pool. He wrapped a towel around himself and went over to Sadie.
"So..." he said as he sat down, not making eye contact with her.
"I'm so jealous of you guys being able to swim right now. Millie made me promise I wouldn't remove this makeup until at least tonight and the water would ruin it."
"You look great," said Finn.
She turned to look at him and he turned to look at her. In the sun, her hair looked like fire. It was the most beautiful shade of reddish orange Finn had ever seen. But her eyes were blue like the sea, like ice.
"Thanks Finn. I am not the biggest fan of makeup, but Millie insisted." She looked away again.
Finn got up, "So I'm gonna go put some clothes on and get dry. I'll meet you in your room?"
"Sure," said Sadie. While Finn was away, Dustin, Noah, and Caleb decided to talk to her.
"So, Miss Sink," Dustin said, "How you likin' LA so far?"
Sadie smiled, "I love it!"
"Oh yeah, and how do you like us so far?" asked Noah.
"You're all very nice. I'm excited to work with you..." She said.
"Okay, specifically, how do you like Finn?" Caleb probed.
Sadie turned the same shade as her dress.
"He's um, well, he's great. He's really nice and supportive."
"Uh huh," said Noah, "But do you like, like him?"
"I, um, have to go..." Sadie smiled and ran off.
"Yeah, she definitely likes him." Caleb said. The boys high fived each other.
Sadie went up to her room, as Millie was heading down to join the guys. She kept thinking to herself, "Why were they asking me about Finn?" "Do I make it too obvious?" "Does he think I'm a creep?" But before she could think anything else, she was surprised to see Finn already standing at her door. She noticed he was wearing a button down shirt. Had he always been this tall? And what was that smell? Cologne? She shook her thoughts away.
"Come in, Finn" she opened the door and let him in.
Finn walked in, closing the door behind him. As Sadie got to tidying up some clothes on her floor, Finn walked around looking at the pictures Sadie had hung up on the walls. In one, she was with her family, in another with Angela. But in each one, he couldn't help but notice how beautiful she was.
"I see you like photos a lot." He exclaimed.
She walked over and stood next to him, "Yeah, they're the only way to hold onto precious moments. These days everyone takes photos on their phones, it just doesn't have the same effect."
"What do you mean?" questioned Finn.
"Well," she took down the photo of her with her mother, "for example, when I hold this picture in my hand, I can smell my mother's perfume, I can feel her hand, I can hear her voice. It's just not the same looking at a picture on a phone. That's why I always try to take my pictures with film cameras."
"I guess you're right. There is something magical about photographs. Wait, so did you bring your camera here?" Finn asked.
"No, I unfortunately broke it a few weeks ago. I'm saving up for a new one. If I had my camera Finn, I would have already..." her voice trailed off as their hands accidentally touched. They both pulled away, clearing their throats.
"So, um, we usually have dinner together at this time, do you want to head down with me?" Finn asked, still a little flushed.
"Yes! Food sounds good." Sadie said.
What they didn't know is that Millie, Gaten, Noah, and Caleb had a surprise in store for them.
