Sadie was outside her house, knee deep in dirt, planting new flowers. She always liked flowers. They always had the ability to brighten your day and it was hard to not smile when she saw them. Sadie focused intently on gently planting each bloom, caressing each petal. She missed him. A lot. Sometimes she lay awake at night thinking about her decision. Had she done the right thing? She loved him, and leaving the show was the best thing she could have done, right? After all, it had been Finn's greatest dream to be an actor, and she of all people did not want to take that away from him.
If you love something, let it go...
That had been her mantra for the past couple of weeks. She heard car tires skidding along the dirt road leading to her house. She looked up. That definitely was not her parent's car. They had gone on a brief vacation and weren't due until the weekend. She stood up, dusting her pants off. Her mouth dropped open as Finn himself got out of the taxi with one backpack and the car drove away. It was a sight to see. He was wearing a suit, but his usual Converse shoes. His hair was disheveled, just as she remembered it. In one hand he was gripping a backpack and in the other, he was holding a bouquet. He made his way towards her and Sadie tried to push back tears.
Finn smiled and dropped his backpack down, using his free arm to bring Sadie in for an embrace. Both of them stood there for a while, hands wrapped around each other. The day was already warm, but his presence provided a different type of warmth. One Sadie had been craving.
"Finn..." she shakily said, breaking away to look at him, still in disbelief.
"Sadie...you didn't really think I'd let you go so easily did you?" Finn smiled.
They went inside and Sadie quickly put together a glass of lemonade for Finn and sat down across from him at the table. Finn handed the bouquet to her as her cheeks flushed into the same color pink as the carnations in the bouquet. "I know how much you love flowers."
She took the bouquet and went hunting for a vase, returning with a beautiful glass one, which she placed on the counter, returning to her seat. Finn noticed her face had grown serious, as if she was nervous again.
"Finn, I know why you're here...and before you say anything or ask me anything, I just want to let you know that I won't be going back with you. I love you too much to do that. Right now, your career needs Stranger Things. You need that show and its success. Millie needs you, Gaten needs you, Caleb and Noah need you. For me, our time together was like a dream, but I never belonged in your world."
Finn reached across the table grabbing her hand.
"Sadie, listen. You're absolutely right. If you asked me just a year ago what my greatest dream was, I would have told you I want to be an actor and how proud I am to play Mike on Stranger Things. But now my greatest achievement and greatest dream are...you. Us. Together. Forget belonging in it, you are my world. No amount of awards, roles, or recognition can ever replace that for me. You're the greatest thing that has ever happened to me, and I want to prove to you that I can be the greatest thing that ever happened to you. So if you love me so much, come back. Nothing would make me happier."
Sadie had tears in her eyes, as she squeezed his hands.
"But...the ratings of the show....the rumors..." she stuttered.
"None of that matters. These things are common in all shows. People create rumors and have opinions on everyone and everything, but we can never let that get in the way of our real lives. I could not be more proud to have you by my side. Please, Sadie, I need you."
His eyes were so sincere and in them she recognized the same aching she had felt in herself.
"Okay" she whispered.
He got up and lifted her out of her seat, swinging her around.
"Sadie Sink, I love you more than you could ever know."
She smiled and closed her eyes. He followed and soon their lips found each other. That moment healed every bit of pain Sadie had experienced and made her feel like she was walking on a cloud. Finn's heart was beating fast. Why hadn't he done this sooner? He wrapped his arms around her waist and brought her closer to him. He was never going to let her go. She immediately responded by raising her arms, resting one hand on the back of his neck and running the other through his curly hair. Gosh, she had missed him.
"Finn Wolfhard, I love you too, thanks for coming back to me," she said.
When Finn and Sadie returned to the studio, the others were ecstatic. They all gathered in a group hug and made Sadie promise she'd never leave them again.
Over the next few years as filming of the seasons continued, Finn and Sadie grew closer than ever. And although they never thought it possible, they loved each other a bit more each day. But pretty soon the show was filming its very last episode, and once again their future was uncertain...
To be continued...
