The Snow Pitch household was crowded, but not unorganized, at Baz's tired insistance when he finally agreed to move in. There were no gargoyles, but there were breakable goat figurines lining the fireplace's mantle. Simon and Baz leaned into each other on the sagging couch, Simon staring into the dying flames.
They'd both agreed they wouldn't be one of those couples; the kind that announced an anniversary every two weeks, but mostly because Penny set a rule after an incident involving Baz's much too extravagant 6 month anniversary gift. All the same, they usually celebrated their yearly anniversary quietly, an present left on Simon's bed, a ring box slid to Baz's side of the table. Even Penny didn't say anything. She wasn't so tactless.
Baz kneaded his thumb and forefinger into Simon's leathery wing, earning an appreciative hum in return. They weren't talking, not really. Earlier that day they got into a heated argument over who knows what, and it had led to fighting over the humdrum. And then the mage.
"You know I don't blame you," Simon said sleepily, "I'd never blame you." He shifted awkwardly to look Baz on the eye. Baz stared back and sighed.
"Let's not deal with that right now Snow." They fell quiet again, content with each other's company. And then Simon spoke up again.
"I forgot to get you a Christmas present."
