We rode as fast as we could towards Edoras through the plains of Rohan. Gandalf on his horse alone, I was riding behind Aragorn and Gimli behind Legolas.
"Aragorn" I called softly.
"Yes?" He answered.
"You are going to be an amazing king. I know it" I said leaning my head onto his back.
"Thank you, Luth but I think I am handing it over to you" he said.
"No, I am already the princess of Erebor. I don't need any other kingdom. Not to forget you're the eldest" I argued making him chuckle.
"Edoras and the Golden hall of Meduseld. There dwells Theoden, King of Rohan." Gandalf said as they stopped little ways in front of the city. "Be careful what you say. Do not look for welcome here." He continued urging his horse forward and we followed after.
Aragorn and I watched as the flag of Rohan fell onto the ground then shared a look that said everything. Aragorn prodded the horse to move forward as we looked at the people of the city.
"You'll find more cheer in a graveyard" Gimli said but no one commented more on it.
Gandalf signalled for us to climb off of the horses backs and follow him towards the stairs of the Golden Hall. A soldier walked out of the gates toward them.
"I cannot allow you before King Theoden so armed, Gandalf Greyhame. By order of Grima Wormtongue." He said the last part bitterly. Gandalf turned to us with a nod. We understood what he wanted and handed our weapons to the guards. The man looked at Gandalf, "your staff" He said.
"You would not part an old man from his walking stick" Gandalf said and the man nodded allowing us passage.
We walked in with Legolas acting as support for Gandalf. We turned around when the click of the doors closing sounded before sneaking a look towards the men creeping behind the pillars.
"The courtesy of your hall is somewhat lessened of late, Theoden King." Gandalf said and I frowned at Grima's whisper.
"Why should I welcom you Gandalf Stormcrow?" Theoden asked.
"A just question, my liege." Grima whispered before standing up to face them, "Late is the hour in which the conjuring chooses to appear. Lathspell I name him. Ill news in an ill guest." He said.
"Be silent. Keep your forked tongue behind your teeth. I have not passed through fire and death to bandy crooked with with a witless worm." Gandalf said showing his staff and Grima instantly backed away in fear.
"His staff. I told you to take the wizard's staff." He said loudly and his mercenary attacked but we knocked them down.
"Shut your tongue, Wormtongue. I should have killed your ancestor fifty years ago" I growled pressing him at a pillar as Gandalf walked over to Theoden. "Don't move" I said eyes narrowing dangerously.
"Theoden, son of Thengel, too long have you sat in the shadows. Hearken to me!" Gandalf said as everyone started piling behind him. "I release you from the spell." He said raising his hand up and the king started laughing.
"You have no power here, Gandalf the Grey." He said and Gandalf took off his robe making him gasp in shock.
"I will draw you Saruman as poison is drawn from a wound." Gandalf said pointing his staff at Theoden. That was when a blonde haired woman tried to run to him but Aragorn held her in place telling her to wait.
"If I go, Theoden dies." Saruman said.
"You did not kill me, you will not kill him." Gandalf said putting more power into his staff.
"Rohan is mine." Saruman said.
"Be gone." Gandalf said using most of his power hitting Theoden on the head with the staff gently.
Aragorn let go of the woman and she instantly ran to Theoden's side as he was turning back to his normal self as the woman looked at him with a teary smile.
"I know your face. Eowyn." Theoden said with a smile as she held his face still smiling, "Eowyn" he whispered then turned toward Gandalf, "Gandalf?" He asked.
"Breathe the free air again, my friend." Gandalf said. Eowyn supported her uncle as he stood up.
"Dark have been my dreams of late." Theoden said looking down at his own hands.
"Your fingers would remember their old strength better if they grasped your sword." Gandalf said and one of the knight walked over to the king with his sword. Theoden drew his sword and stared at it for a while before turning to Wormtongue and I instantly let go of him with a smile.
Few knights gripped Wormtongue throwing him down the stairs of the watching as he rolled down the stairs as Theoden followed him a sword in hand.
"I've only ever served you, my lord." Womrtongue said.
"As if" I whispered to Legolas who smiled at me.
"Your leechcraft would have had me crawling on all fours like a beast!" Theoden growled.
"Send me not from your sight." Wormtongue said and Theoden took a mighty swing but Aragorn took hold of his arms.
"No, my lord! No, my lord! Let him go. Enough blood has been spilt on his account." Aragorn said allowing Wormtongue to run away shouting at the people of Edoras. "Hail, Theoden King!" Aragorn shouted and people instantly kneeled in front of their king.
Theoden watched his people kneeling then looked at Aragorn who kneeled as well. He turned around to look at the people on the stairs, "Where is Theodred? Where is my son?" He asked.
"My lord, he's gone. Orcs attacked his party by surprise. He didn't make it through the night." Eowyn said with teary eyes.
After the funreal I sat in the hall with Eowyn, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli who was eating. When Gandalf and Theoden entered with two little kids in each arms.
"Gandalf!" I jumped up toward the wizard.
"They need rest and food" he said.
"Let me" I said taking the girl into her arms as Aragorn took the boy from Theoden.
After the two kids were checked up they were placed on a table with food in front of them. Eowyn crouched next to the table as they discussed the issue they were told by the kids.
"They had no warning. They were unarmed. Now the wild men are moving through Westfold, burning as they go. Rick, cot and tree." Eowyn said.
"Where is mama?" The girl asked as Eowyn covered her with a blanket breaking my heart. I saw myself in the little girl's eyes. How I was when Thorin saved me and how I felt. How scared I was when he tried to get through to me and how he made me feel safe and comfortable around him slowly and patiently.
"Luth!" Gimli shooke by the shoulder making me turn toward him.
"Yes?" I asked.
"You weren't listening were you?" Aragorn asked.
"N no, sorry." She apologized.
"We are leaving for Helm's Deep. Come on." Aragorn said standing up and I followed after them to the stables.
