I stood in the laundry room, crying my eyeballs out. "Is that bleach effecting your hormones? Because I have some pills that'll really..." my mom started. "Ari?"

I didn't answer.

"Ari?" she asked again, putting her hand on my shoulder. "Better get those pills..."

"Mom!" I said, looking up before she actually got the pills. "I'm fine.." I said. "Well it sure doesn't look like it." she said. Awkward silence. "I'm getting the pills." she turned to leave. "MOOOMMM!!!" I sretched the word mom out so it had, like, eighteen syllables. "I don't need any pills!" My mother walked straight toward me, and she leaned in close. "Ari, are you on your period?" she asked. "MOM!!" I said. "What?! You're moody, sheesh."  she said. I rolled my eyes. "You know Hunter, right?" I asked. "The cute dude you've had a crush on since kindergarten?" she asked. "Mom!" I said. "Stop! But, yes. And you know about the dance, right?" I asked. "Yeeeessss," she said. "Well, we danced, and Hunter almost kissed me, but I was crowned, get ready for it, Princess of the Nothings." I said, flinching and waiting for her cruel response. But she just sat there.

I mean, WHO does that???

"Oookaaayyy," she said. I rolled my eyes. "Moooommm!!" I said. "I'm getting the pills." she said. She turned to leave again, but I stopped her once more. "Alright," she said. "Who did it?" "Catee Edwards," I said. "OHHHH!!! That CATEE! Her mother is the most-" "MOM!!" I said. "Only talk about people's mothers, if it involves me ripping their daughter's hearts out!" I said. "Pills," she said for the kabillionth time, turning again. I grabbed her arm. 'Really Mom," I said. "Stop."  She turned around again and stared deep into my eyes.

"Oh Ari," she said. She put her warm and soft hand on my cheek. "You remind me of myself when I was your age. I was all caught up with Andrew Moore, until Elizabeth Stanton dumped a bowl of coleslaw in my bra at a dance one day," she looked away. "Seriously?" I asked. "Oh yeah," Mom said. "Andrew was the cutest thing ever. He would've been your father, if it weren't for Elizabeth." she said. "Well what happened between you and Andrew?" I asked. "Well, we never spoke to each other again!" Mom said, smiling now. "MOM! NOT helping!" I said.

She shrugged. Turning to leave the room, she said, "Those pills are on the table downstairs,"

"MOM!" I said, but I was laughing now.

Maybe she's not so terrible after all.
