It was the gangs first day at Auradon Prep and the class they started was remedial goodness. It was only Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos in the class so only two desks were set up side by side, the boys sat at one and the girls at the other.
"If someone hands you a crying baby?.." began the fairy godmother as she used a cane to point to the sentence on the board. Evie was the only one listening at that moment, not taking her eyes off the board as fairy godmother spoke. Carlos was playing with his thick white hair, twirling the same lock around his finger every couple of seconds. Jay had refused sitting in the seat normally, instead he turned the seat around and sat on it backs putting his muscly arms, that were on full display due to his hoodie not having any sleeves, leaning over the wooden back of the chair. He was wearing his normal burgundy-brown hat that he always wore and without the hat, Carlos had noticed that his hair looked a lot longer, it wasn't but it did look long.
Mal made it look like she was taking notes pretending to change pens and move books around her desk so that fairy godmother would think she was doing work. In reality she was drawing an extremely detailed picture of the wand they had seen the night before.
"..do you a, curse it?" Fairy godmother saying moving her cane frightfully as of casting a spell "do you b, lock it in a tower?" She said in the same tone but pointed her cane upwards this time. "Or is it c, give it a bottle?".
Evie's hand shot up immediately as a smile rose on fairy godmothers face "yes, Evie?" She said for Evie to answer the question.
"What was the second one?" Evie said with blind ignorance. Mal looked up to Evie in a mixture of why are you even paying attention and how could you not answer that?
"Anyone else?" Fairy godmother spoke pointing her cane at the others.
"Give it a bottle" said Mal not looking up from her drawing.
"Correct..again. Good job Mal" said a delighted FG. Carlos stopped fidgeting with his hair and turn to Mal on his right.
"Damn girl, you are on fire" he said in a fierce sassy voice as he and Jay looked surprised. Mal poked her head up and looked ahead of her "Well it's easy, just choose the one that doesn't sound like any fun?" Mal replied stroking her purple hair as she said it. A chorus of "obvious aws" cane from her three friends. Mal looked back down to her drawing as a quick shape moved past her and she heard a sound, almost like a squeak. She looked up and saw a small brown haired girl run past the group in a knee length blue dress with a bow in her hair of the same colour. Mal looked at her with curious disgust, light blue was an obvious colour of goodness. Evie was too busy to even notice the girl, too busy looking at her eye makeup in her mirror. Jay however smiled as he did whenever a girl outside of their friend group appeared flaunting his uncovered arms in confidence but she didn't even twice at him. Carlos was always nervous around girls but he smiled at her nonetheless but she didn't return the favour, she squealed again, looking at him with almost manic eyes.
The girl walked over to FG and handed her a piece of paper, looking back at the foursome warily. Mal couldn't hear what they were saying but notice the resemblance as soon as the two were next to each other. Mal nudged Evie's arm prompting her to pay attention.
"Everyone here remembers my daughter Jane?" said FG as she wrote something on the piece of paper she had been handed. Jay and Carlos exchanged looks, Jay smiled confidently and looked back at Jane and Carlos simply didn't seem interested and looked around him.
"Jane, this is everyone" finished Fairy Godmother as Jane walked towards them timidly, like a deer would approach a human in the wild. Carlos waved and Jay nudged him and nodded. Evie's gaze was back at herself with the mirror but Mal looked as her deviously with her green eyes.
"As you were" Jane said before darting out of the room and out of sight.
Fairy Godmother watched as her daughter left the room before saying "let's continue".
Mal turned her head back to her notebook and began scribbling once more.
"You find a vial of poison? Do you a) put it in the Kings wine?" Began fairy godmother. Evie looked down at her notes and drew a confused look on her face as she put her hand up.
"B) paint it on an apple" Mal and Evie looked at each other knowing that was Evie's mothers speciality, and laughed with each other.
"Or c) turn it over to the proper authorities?".
When fairy godmother stopped speaking Jay and Carlos hands both went up immediately. Jay, seeing Carlos also had his hand up, grabbed it and pulled it down. Carlos tried to resist but Jay was clearly stronger. Fairy godmother pointed her cane towards Jay for him to answer, he let go of Carlos' arm and answered "it's C, you turn it over to the proper authorities!" with a smug look on his face.
Carlos face was a picture, mouth gaped he slapped Jays bare arm and moaned "I was gonna say that!".
Fairy godmother clapped the cane into her hand indicating that it was the correct answer.
"But you didn't did you, no you didn't!" Jay mocked into Carlos ear with a high pitched voice. Carlos rolled his eyes at Jay and ignored him. Jay say this and wrapped his large bicep around the back of Carlos neck pulled him into a loose headlock as he ruffled his thick snowy hair. Jay was mumbling to himself as Carlos screeched some "ouch's" and "oh's", Carlos flailed his legs causing the two boys to fall onto the table wrestling with each other on top of the mahogany wood surface.
Fairy godmother never said anything she tapped her cane against the chalk board causing the two boys attention to turn to the woman.
"Boys, I am going to have to encourage you to use that energy on the tourney field?" She said as she gestured to the window of the class.
Jay let go of Carlos and got off the table, Carlos didn't move however and replied to her "oh no thanks, whatever that is. I'm not interested".
