The whistle blew as Jay and Carlos walked over to the field where Tourney try outs were held.
"Why did I have to come?" Asked Carlos.
"Because to be honest, you're not really good at anything cool. Maybe sports is your thing?" Replied Jay.
Carlos hung his head picking up a helmet, shield and stick. Carlos looked around and saw no one in the stands. The cheerleaders were busy stretching. He noticed that on the very bottom of the stand, the boy he first met when entering Auradon, Elliot. Elliot was leaning on the edge of the bleachers bars with his legs up, knees to chest. One hand was balancing a book while the other one had a half eaten apple in it. Carlos stared at him for a while. He also noticed the boys wrists, each wrist had a thick iron cuff attached to it. This was the second time he'd seen the cuff but only the proper time he'd seen it like this. The cuff was thick and had a thin blue-grey line running through the middle of it in a circle. Carlos looked at the boy curiously but Elliot was too engrossed in his book and Carlos was snapped back by the second time the whistle blew.
Carlos turned and saw a large black man with a yellow cap playing with the whistle he had just blown in his hand. He looked around at all the players ok the field.
"Jay and Ben, Offence, Chad you're Defence.." Ben patted Jay on the back as the started to jog up to their set places. Chad who had one of his hands running through his yellow blonde hair as he walked towards his place and waited with his hands on his hips. Chad knew he was good looking, and so did everyone else, even Carlos. The coach turned to a small guy to his left and pointed to him "Taylor, you're the shooter" as the kid put on his helmet and ran over toward the goals.
Carlos looked lost on the field, just floating as he didn't have a space. The coach started yelling and as Carlos turned his head to look at him, it was Carlos he was looking at.. "Hey! Lost boy!" Carlos looked around again to make sure it was him the coach was talking to. As he turned he caught Elliot's eyes. Elliot put his book down on the bench next to where he was sitting and threw the apple in the nearest trash can as he wanted to focus on the game now. Carlos redirected his head to the coach "..Put your helmet on and get out of the kill zone?" The coach yelled at him. Carlos immediately put the helmet over his head and then looked up confused and a little frightened "kill zone?" He muttered to himself. Carlos didn't know how to play the game or even where he fit in the game but he matched out the symmetry on the field and stood in-front of the goals. The whistle blew and action erupted. Cheerleaders that were once silently stretching began jumping and whooping, giving high kicks and loud claps. Jay got the ball and passed it to Ben, who was skinny and agile enough to sneak through the other players as he passed back to Jay. Jay was around the same height as Ben but double the body size. Jays rippling tanned muscles were on full display in the tourney uniform. Jay caught the ball and began to run, instead of evading the other team Jay used brute force running into them pushing them to the ground, one after an other after an other. It got to the point where Jay was chasing after the other players he hadn't hit just to knock them down as he gave Ben a clear path. Jay was now running towards Carlos with the same fury that he had taken out on the other players.
"Wait Jay, it's me it Carlos" he pleaded as he ran. Jay couldn't hear him through the helmet so Carlos threw the stick at him but it landed in between his legs missing him. Jay screamed like a mad man on a battle field. Jay didn't stop and Carlos fell into the fetal position using the shield as protection. Jay jumped over Carlos as he caught the ball and scored causing the cheerleaders to go nuts. All apart from Audrey who had folded her arms and rolled her eyes in silent protest. When Jay scored he started doing some weird ridiculous dance move in celebration not even realising the bodies he had left on the field. Carlos sat up and took his helmet off glancing up at the stands but Elliot had now ventured along with cheerleaders onto the field behind the coach.
"You! Get over here!" The coach yelled and pointed to Jay. Jay looked over at him and began to run over to him. Ben walked over to Carlos and held out a hand, Carlos took it and pulled himself up.
"Don't worry about it, my first time I got hit in the head with the ball and had to spend a week in the nurses office" Ben said with a laughing smile, the kind of smile that made both of the people in the conversation laugh. Ben turned and walked with Carlos over towards to Jay and the coach nudging him slightly as they walked. Carlos returned the favour even lighter as the two boys smiled at each other.
"What the hell do you call that?" The coach said with an angry look on his face. Jay couldn't tell if that was because he was angry or if his face was always like that because it hadn't changed since Jay had first stepped onto the field.
Jay looked around as a circle began to form around him. Chad made a "psst" noice behind him knowing what was coming. Or what he thought was coming. The coaches dull expression twisted into something resembling a smile as he said "I call that raw talent". Chads face fell and looked confused after that. Elliot laughed at Chad face as Chad walked off in a mood. Elliot moved to walk over to Ben and stood next to him. The coach tapped Jay on the shoulder as he said "welcome to the team son". A few players clapped and few players walked away after Chad at the news.
The coach then turned to Carlos as looked at him up and down "you ever thought about band" Carlos faked a laugh at the coach as Jay erupted into a frenzy of laughter. Elliot silently giggled at the comment. Bens voice came from behind Carlos "I'll work with him coach" as he put his hand on his shoulder.
"And so will I" said a voice next to Ben, it was Elliot. Everyone including the cheerleaders looked at him in surprise, even Carlos. Elliot looked at everyone also in surprise. "You guys do remember I was captain of the tourney team last year?" He said.
A voice from the back of the crowd shouted "and we all know how that turned out, freak!" Elliot ignored the comment.
Ben side walked over to him and said in a lower voice "hey man are you sure? You know you're not aloud to play?". Elliot looked at Ben with an expressionless face. A cold and icy look causing Ben to look away.
"I never said I was playing, I said I would help!" Elliot said now annoyed.
After that coach blew the whistle as the people in the circle dispersed.
