"Why didn't you tell me that you were here, Flake?" he asked as he gave me a hug. I forgot to mention how we became friends. I should explain everything now.
It all started back when I was in the sixth grade. It was near the end of the school year, and he came up to me and apologized for the way he treated me at the beginning of the year. Jordan actually apologized. Nobody has ever heard him apologize and actually mean it like he did then.
"I know that the way I treated you was extremely wrong. I really want to get to know you more and hopefully, become friends. I shouldn't have beat you like that. I would hate to be mistreated in that way. I just hope, hope, that there is a place in your heart to forgive me,' Jordan said sincerely.
"Of course there is."
I reached out my hand and awaited a handshake from him.
"Thank you," he said as he shook my hand.
Jordan and I walked the whole way home together. He was my neighbor back when Alex and I lived in Pittsburgh. We stopped at a TCBY and got some delicious frozen yogurt. Jordan paid for it all. When we received our yogurt, we walked over to a table outside and sat down.
"Thanks for buying this yogurt for me, Jordan," I said.
"It really isn't that big of a deal. It's the least I could do for the way I treated you."
"I've forgiven you already, Jordan."
"Yeah, I know. It still doesn't excuse the fact that I hurt you both, physically and emotionally."
"Well, my brother did get you and your crew back for what you did."
"True, but still. I really am sorry."
"It's okay. I've forgiven you already. Now, if you apologize one more time, I'm going to beat the cra--," he cut me off.
"Hey, watch your language little dude," he said with a smile.
"What? I was only gonna say crap."
"What'd I just say?"
"Oh my gosh. That is really getting annoying."
"I know it is. That's why I said it."
"Ugh. You're gonna be one hard dude to get used to," I said with a slight upward tilt in the corner of my mouth.
"I've heard that before."
We finished up our yogurt and ate the waffle cones he got for us both. Jordan and I became one of the best of friends, even though he was two years older than me.
The rest of the walk home was just filled with silence until we saw a girl across the street. She had beautiful braided brown hair and these amazing pink lips. She was surrounded by all these other girls, especially by the one named Victoria. She was the most popular girl at our school, but she was only in the seventh grade. I just assumed that the brown haired-cutie was a seventh grader as well. I rarely saw her at school.
"Alright, so Alice and I are going to like, um, go shopping at the mall or whatever. Enjoy your weekend, girls," Victoria said as she poked the pretty girl with the pink lips. They turned and walked towards the mall.
I don't think I have a chance in the world with her. And then my eyes started trailing down her body.
"Whoa, bro. Watch where your eyes go when you're in public, Flake," Jordan said as he flicked me in the back of my head.
"Owwww. That hurt, Jordan."
"Like I care."
"Wow. Fine. Be like that."
