Desert.

Bare, red and yellow, what is more, terribly hot.

Lightning reached out towards the sky and yawned.

Then why does he love desert so much?

He felt the warm of the rising sun on his face; the sun was slowly rising above the horizon. It was hella early, but Lightning - unlike other teens in his age - loved getting up early. He loved the privacy of the desert, he admired the landscape - his home -, and he was thinking. He turned his face towards the sun, his blonde hair was glowing like gold.

" 'Morning, Lightning!" a kind voice chattered behind his back.

The boy turned and smiled at the girl.

"Hi, Sally!"

He pat the cars' engine hood next to himself.

Oh yeah, Lightning was sitting so far on an old 72 Pontiac GTO. The car had a quite nice history, Lightning's father started racing with it. He was known the world over, and Lightning's dream was follow his father and become a racing driver.

However, the man had other plans with his son. Lightning was smart, and Hudson wanted him go to university and study - but the boy, as a good teenager, resisted.

"Have you practiced yet?" Sally asked Lightning as she sat next to her friend. She was wearing a blue hoodie, she hid her hands in its pocket and her hair in the hood.

Lightning shooked his head.

The three of them, Sally, Mater (Lightning's best friend) and Lightning formed a league. Radiator Springs was a really small city, secrets can no longer be secrets here, but they managed to hide the truth: the Pontiac visits the desert every morning.

Sally turned towards Lightning but the very moment the boy slide down the car, zipped his jacket's zipper and got into the car. Sally drew a line in the sand with her shoe and stepped aside. The engine of the Pontiac grunted and started. Lightning choose an optional path in the desert, he passed by cacti and dunes, he followed his heart. Sometimes he showed a more complicated maneuver to Sally, who admired the boy. She was sure Lightning will become a famous racer in the future.

But this day was something else.

Lightning took a sharp turn round a smaller hump, he yelled in pleasure and enjoyed the speed. But at the end of the turn, the back of the car slipped, the Pontiac span and derailed and bumped almost into a cliff.

"Oh my god, Lightning!" Sally screamed and ran to help the boy get out of the car.

Lightning's feet was shaking because of the sudden scare, but he immediately stumbled to the front of the car.

God please no...

He grimaced as he saw the broken lamp and the deep scratches.

Sally looked at the boy in perplexity.

"We sucked" Lightning summed up.
