I woke up next to Haelie the next morning; she was still asleep. My phone's time told me that it was still really early. We wouldn't need to actually get up for a bit. I sighed and laid back down, trying to occupy the time, trying to go back to sleep. I couldn't, though. I found myself looking at Haelie, watching her sleep, watching her expressions and her movements. She was softly biting her lip, her eyes kind of squeezing tight before she relaxed. She squirmed just a little bit.
What is she dreaming about? I couldn't help but wonder. Her movements were too interesting for me not to try to figure out what she was dreaming about. Maybe a guy? That was a possibility. Before I could delve more into my thoughts about what she could be dreaming about, she moved over, wrapped an arm around me, and pulled me to her.
What on earth...? She had to be dreaming about a guy, definitely. I wonder who she's dreaming about. I felt myself drifting downward, feeling myself relax, feeling myself float back into falling asleep as if I'd never woken up in the first place. I felt so...comfortable.

I'm going through the same day, same place, same way I always do;
Then I saw you from the corner of my eye, and it hit me like a ton of bricks, I can't lie;
Oh, you got to me;
My life was alright, living in black and white;
But you changed my point of view;
Show me your colors;
Show me your colors;
'Cause without you I'm blue
Hurry up and save me;
Hurry up and save me;
Hurry up and save me;
Hurry up and save me;
I just want to feel alive;
And I do when I'm with you.
My phone was blaring Hurry Up and Save Me by Tiffany Giardina. I realized it was my alarm. I smacked it hard to shut it up and then checked the time.
7:45 AM.
MOTHERF-! I wiggled Haelie around. "Wake up! We're gonna be late!"
She groaned and sat up, removing her arms from me. "What?" she asked, her voice groggy as hell. "What is it, Val?"
I jumped out of the bed. "We're going to be late! We need to get out of bed and get dressed now!"
Rubbing her eyes, she sighed. "Val, calm down. It's okay. Don't stress."
"I am stressing! I haven't been late for class once!"
She got out of the bed in her shorts and tank top and came over, hugging me from behind, putting her head on my shoulder. "Shhh. Calm down. You're going to be okay, I promise. We can handle this, Valorie. Inhale."
I inhaled a deep breath.
"Exhale."
I exhaled the breath. I felt better.
"Good girl, Val. Now, let's get dressed, okay?"
I nodded, and she let go of me. I walked over to my dresser. I grabbed up a yellow t-shirt with some logo on it that I can't remember for the life of me and a pair of faded blue jeggings. I threw on the clothes and put on some flats quickly enough. I brushed through my hair hastily.
Haelie, however, calmly dressed. She was wearing a pair of cutoff, slightly ripped shorts, a Yoshi tee, and her shoes from yesterday. She borrowed my brush and went through her hair before clipping some of it up.
We were done in ten or so minutes. We grabbed our bags and headed off to school. I wanted to sprint, but Haelie told me to relax and just walk. We'd be okay despite being late. It wasn't the end of the world.

The rest of the time at school went by as it usually did: being ignored, slurs, the occasional bitch move or two from the girls, talking with Haelie, talking a little with Naomi. It was the same routine every day.
Haelie walked home with me as we usually did together. She talked to me about all the possibilities of what we could do this weekend when we got time off from classes. "I found this really cool fair that's being held in the next town over. It'd be really fun to go and ride on all the rides and eat all the cotton candy we want," she said, grinning at me. "I'll even make you ride an insane ride if they have any."
"Oh, God. I'll die if you get me on an insanely fast ride."
"No, you won't. I promise!" She smiled sweetly. I wasn't buying it.
"Do I have to?"
"You love me, don't you?"
"Well, yes."
"Then yes!"
I sighed. "Okay, Haelie. Just one though, okay?"
She nodded eagerly. "Great! I'll have to get my mom to take us over there and drop us off for a while. It'll be really fun, I swear."
We got to the front porch when I got ambushed by Ray's older sister. She tackled me to the ground and snarled in my face to some degree, looking pretty damn ugly doing it. "Hey, slut. How are you? Not slandering my brother's good name, I hope."
"Hey!" Haelie yelled. "Get the hell off of her, you weirdass bimbo!"
Ray's older sister stood up and turned to Haelie. "Excuse me? This isn't your business, little chick. You best stay back."
Haelie stared her down. "She's my friend, so I can do what the hell I want."
She got in Haelie's face. "I suggest you go away."
"No, I suggest you go away." Haelie was looking pissed off by this chick, and the next thing I knew, a fist flew. Ray's sister tried to punch my best friend, but shegrabbed and held the punch, landing one of her own square in the center of the bitch's face.
Ray's sister yelped in pain and staggered back, holding her nose. I saw some blood drip. "That's the last damn straw, Weston! When I come back here again, you're both getting fucked up! Just you wait!" With that, she ran off and hopped in her little car.
Haelie offered me her hand, and I took it. "Hey, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. She didn't hurt me."
"So, that's Ray's sister?"
I nodded.
"She looks like a bitch. Come on, let's get you inside." She took me in the house. Mom wasn't home, so she went ahead and brought me up to my room. Sitting with me on the bed, she looked me over. "You're sure she didn't do any damage?"
I sighed softly. "I'm positive. Next time she comes back, though, it won't be pretty."
Haelie grinned at me. "Of course not. She'll need plastic surgery to fix that nose now. She'll be ugly as hell." She immediately sobered her expression. "Don't worry, though, okay? I'm here for you. If she comes by again or makes threats, call me immediately if I'm not here."
"Okay."
She hugged me tight but delicately, almost as if she was afraid she'd break me. "I'll see you tomorrow, okay? We'll get everything set up for this weekend, and we'll forget about this. Behave yourself."
I smiled. "I'll try."
Haelie laughed a very pretty, melodious laugh. "Trying is good enough to me. See you."
She left my room.
I was alone.
