The rest of the week went by, and I was still safe and sound. Ray or his sister hadn't tried anything yet. The whole time, I was slowly growing closer and closer to Haelie. I felt something in her that just screamed you can trust me, and I believed it fully.
Now, it was early Friday night, and I was getting ready to go to the fair with Haelie. I tied my hair back and put on a pink and black baseball style shirt with some jeans and my tennis shoes. I fixed my eyeliner just a bit and put on some lipgloss, since my lips felt just a little dry. I heard the sound of a vehicle pulling in the drive, so I shoved my phone and cupcake wallet into my pockets and headed to the front door. Upon opening it, I saw Haelie standing there in full profile. She was wearing a black and tank top with black and white two-tone ripped jeans and a pair of Converse. She bit her lip ring in a nervous way. I almost found it cute.
"Hey, Val!" Haelie smiled upon seeing me. "Cute. I like the baseball shirt. I couldn't get my mom to drive us, so you're going to have to deal with me. I'm warning you, I'm kind of a maniac on the road." She laughed.
"As long as we don't die, I think I'll be okay," I said, laughing with her. She grabbed me by the hand in response, letting me hang there long enough to shut the door before she almost dragged me to the car. Haelie got into the driver's seat, and I slid on into the passenger's side. The seats were sleek and clean. I almost felt embarrassed about the car that Mom drove.
She sped off from the curb, and I felt a little compelled to grab the safety handle. I chose not to, though. "Would you like a speed limit to go with this road?"
"Nice one, genius chick." She laughed loudly as she drove and decided to have me turn on the radio.
I turned it on.
I have to have control of myself;
My thoughts, my mind;
'Cause the way it's going down, I feel like a prisoner in a light;
Are you feeling me?
'Cause the way you break my, shake my walls around;
I feel like I'm breaking out;
Show me your colors;
Show me your colors;
'Cause without you I'm blue;
Without you I'm blue;
Hurry up and save me;
Hurry up and save me;
Hurry up and save me;
Hurry up and save me;
I just wanna feel alive;
And I do when I'm with you.
Haelie sat there, unaffected by the fact that this song came on. I was surprised. It just happened to get turned on right at the start of the second verse. Why is this happening? It was weird. It's probably just a coincidence. Don't get your panties in a bunch, Val.
We talked, but most of it was her being excited about the fair. The rest was about what we would do about Ray's sister if her and her goons showed up. Haelie told me not to worry, that she had everything in control of her.
Hurry up and save me...

We made it to the fair. Haelie found us a parking spot nearer to the entry/exit area, and we went inside. I tried to forget all the problems from earlier and focused on having fun with Haelie at the fair.
