CHAPTER 6 - OH HELL NO!

All the campers were called to assemble at a ground with a huge stage. As we sat down with our bags sprawled around us, the counsellors stood to attention on the stage. A mid-aged man with long grey hair stood in front of the mike.

Clearing his throat and tapping the mike, he started to speak, “Hello everyone and welcome to Camp Breakaway!! I'm Michael Gates, the Director of this camp. Now, each of you will be given an information packet with the schedules, rules, and activities that the camp has to offer. You shall find this on your bunk beds. Erik and Mary,” He pointed at a tall, lanky boy with messy hair and a petite girl with short red hair, “will tell you which cabins you have been sorted into. Take today to look around and get a feel of the place and tomorrow after breakfast at 7 o'clock everyone can sign up for any extra activities that they might be interested in.

“Also, not to forget, the Camp Breakaway Party that is held at the end of the camp, will require all your cooperation. You may help the counsellors in organizing the event by meeting the people in charge of each department and getting jobs that are available. Now our counsellors would like to welcome you all with a few words.”

Many groaned at the prospect of sitting and listening, and moved about restlessly. Some were mindlessly throwing stones at selected targets while others cracked jokes. Me? I was staring at Clea. She was siting two rows away from me, playing with a stray lock of her beautiful long hair. She laughed out loud when Aria made a joke and then started making designs in the sand. It was peaceful watching her and she must have felt my gaze ‘cause she looked up from her absorbing work and searched the crowd for me.

She met my eyes and blushed. I smiled at her and gave a little wave. She quickly looked around her to see if I was waving at someone else. I laughed when she looked back at me and kept her hand on her chest and gave a “Me?” look.  I gave her a nod and she smiled. I tapped Alex's shoulder, pulling him away from his “oh so important job” of sending Aria flying kisses.

“What is it?” He snapped at me.

“Do you want to go and sit next to the girls?” I asked him.

He grinned, “I thought you'd never ask!”

We quietly got up, and like we were in military training or something, crawled to the girls.

“Hey..” I whispered into Cleo's ear. She shivered and turned to me with wide eyes and just when she tried to say something.... a deep voice boomed out of the speakers,

“Hello everyone, I'm Adrian.”

Oh shit! Adrian is a counsellor!!! I couldn’t believe a counsellor flirted with me! What am I going to do! All my hopes of getting to know him better went flying out of the window. As soon as he walked on to the stage, I heard gasps and saw a lot of fanning from the girls and the guys going into 'Macho-Mood' to win their attention back. Aria was messing with her hair and searching her purse for her hand mirror and lip gloss. I really could not understand how Alex put up with her.

Nathaniel was sitting next to me, and I could almost feel the warmth of his body radiating on to mine. I was so distracted, my eyes were drawn to Adrian but I couldn't help but lean slightly towards Nathaniel.

Adrian had a very commanding aura around him which caught everyone’s attention. Plus his laid-back way of standing with his hands in his pockets just added to his overall charm. With a breath taking smile and a really hot body, he could easily be the most popular counsellor on camp.

My point was proved when I heard a girl whisper to her friend, “Damn, I come to this camp only to see Adrian.”

Adrian started to speak and my whole focus rested on him, “Welcome to Camp Breakaway! I know many of you are stressing over a lot of school work and other stuff that you kids are up to nowadays.”
