Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have this wish I wish tonight.
The stars in the sky glimmer like a thousand suns burning bright across the night sky. I gaze upon those stars wondering how small we are in a universe so big. As my mind drifts off strong arms pulls me back to earth. Turning my head to see those soft auburn curls I've come to love. Eyelids concealing alluring chocolate eyes that hold the secrets of the world. Cheeks blushing red in the autumn chill. Beautiful features for a beautiful boy.
He pulls me closer to his chest snuggling into the crook of my neck. Nose pressing into my skin sending shivers down my spine. I can't help the smile that makes its way into my face. Closing my eyes I fall back and let myself be held. Succumbing to the feeling of his arms around me. Feeling whole for the first time in my life.
This morning started like any other. My alarm blaring at me for 20 mins straight. My real wake up call is my younger brother Mikey squirting my face with a water bottle.
"Veronika I swear to god! Turn your goddamn alarm off and get up loser!" he screamed
I simply flipped him off and rolled back into my nice warm bed. After my wonderful wake up call I got dressed and headed out the door.
"Mikey you better get ur ass out here or you can walk to school" I yelled from the car window
"Chill girl. Your never ready this early what gives?" He asked jumping the car
"I gotta get Jake something for our anniversary" I replied
"Ugh couples. They're so annoying. All they do is suck mouth and grind asses"
"Excuse me Mr. 'I've never been in a relationship before'. It is more than that! It's being real with somebody. Being able to be yourself around them. Having someone to share memories with!" I exclaimed
"Gag me with a spoon" he curtly replied
"Shut up!"
We drove target and the dollar store ending up buying half the snack aisle. When we got to school I headed to me and Jakes normal meeting spot in the library. Suddenly two arms wrap around my waist and spin me around.
"Jake oh my god put me down!" I shrieked.
He spun me around before returning me to my feet.
"Morning princess" He always knows just what to say to make me blush
"Morning handsome" I replied. He leaned down and whispered in my ear
"Happy anniversary baby"
"Happy anniversary" I smiled
We checked to see if anyone was around before sharing a sweet kiss.
"So I was hoping I could take you out tonight? Show you a good time?" Jake asked
"Of course. Pick me up after school" I responded. Then the bell rang signaling the start to every teens worst nightmare. High school.
After school we hopped in his car before driving away. I asked where we were going. He just smiled that knowing smile and slipped his hand into mine. I didn't mind going anywhere as long as it was with him.
I stared out the window of the car, my mind drifting to random thoughts. 'Do vegetarians eat animal crackers?'
"Um yeah they're not actually made of animals." He said
"Shit I said that out loud?"
"Yeah"
Fuck he thinks I'm weird. You know, if he hasn't figured that out by now that's his problem.
I continue to stare out the window when I thought I heard him mumble something about being cute but I could just dreaming.
We pull up to the mall and I immediately drag him to the food court. We buy an armful of chick fil a nuggets and post stupid pictures on instagram. We laughed and talked the whole time. I couldn't be happier.
Jakes POV
We walk around the mall. I gently slip my hand into hers. Our hands fit together like puzzle pieces. I stare at her with such adoration. They way her face lights up when she sees something she loves, it's enough to make any man swoon.
I get a text from my best buds wishing me a happy anniversary and telling me everything was set up for tonight. I shoot a quick text back and look back up at my beautiful girlfriend. Her face breaks into a beaming grin. That adorable ball of energy drags me to the closest Build a Bear. I couldn't deny my princess anything while she looked so cute.
She picked out a teddy bear while I walked over to the heart station. I picked up a heart and whispered a message into it, that way she'd always have a piece of me.
We created the bear the she decided to name Peanut Butter. Of all the things to name it, she went with that.
After grabbing a smoothie from a kiosk we headed back to my car. I drove home the whole way holding her hand, hoping I'd never have to let go.
When we got back I texted my buddy to make sure everything was in place. When I got the go ahead I drove us to the park by my house.
Veronika POV
"What are we doing over here?" I asked
"Just figured we go walk for a bit."
"You didn't bring me out here to murder me did you?" I asked cautiously
"If I did do u think i would tell you my evil plans?"
"Well yeah that's what Dr Doofenshmirtz does!"
He just chuckles and shakes his head at me. I lock my fingers with him as we walk down the path. Autumn breeze blowing through my hair. We turn around the bend and I gasp.
It looked like something out of a movie. My rusty pickup truck was sitting in the middle of a clearing, back trunk full of pillows and blankets. Old fashion movie projector sitting up top aimed at a worn bedsheet tied between two trees. Fairy lights adorned the trees. Stars shimmering in the moonlight. It was perfect.
I don't know how he found the time to set it up but frankly I don't care. I just wanted to stay in this moment forever. He brought out the teddy bear we made that day. He squeezed his paw and Jakes words 'I love you' resonated in the air.
A tear slipped from my eye as held him tight. I released him to look into his eyes, looking at me with so much love.
He gazes down at me. Ever so slowly leans in. Our lips meet with a tender kiss full of love. Warmth spreads through my body filling me up. All I can think about is his lips on mine. No one else existed but us. Nothing else mattered but this moment right now.
We break apart simply resting our foreheads on each other. I pull back to grab my gift.
"I know it's not much. I mean it's literally dollar store rings but, I want you to know how much I love you. I don't know where I'd be without you. You never fail to brighten my day. You always know just what to say. So I'm making you a promise. As long as we're together I promise to protect you and hold you, and that I will always love you" I say. He wipes a tear from my eye.
"I love you too Ronni"
We cuddled in the backseat of the truck, drifting away to the sounds of Micheal Bublé playing in the background.
Everything else just faded away leaving two beautiful teenagers falling in love against the backdrop of the sky.
