Purple is Melody's. Red is Dylan's. Yellow is Melody's and Dylan's. Green is for guests. Orange is for everyone. Blue is for parents.
It's a Friday in September, and today is moving in day. The day where Dylan and I finally get separate rooms. I can't even begin to list how many problems we had when we shared a room. Our family is moving to Queens, New York from Denver, Colorado. A surgeon in Manhattan got in a car wreck and damaged his hands then mysteriously disappeared, and they've called Mom to replace him. Dad has gotten many requests to direct broadway musicals. We've moved into a large condo. Four bedrooms. Master, guest, and the last two for my brother and me. We even get our own living room!
"Come on, Luxray!" I call out to my cat. "You haven't seen the condo yet."
"Jeez, you talk with that cat like he's a person," Dylan scoffs.
"Shut up, Dyl-pickle," I huff, adjusting the boxes in my arms.
Luxray follows behind me. The people walking on the street give Luxray a double take at how large he is. He probably is some kind of world record, but we don't really care to look. If it's not given away by the name, I named him after a Pokémon. One of my favorite cats, Luxray.
I grab lots of boxes from my car to stuff as many as possible in Dylan's arms.
"Stop giving me so many!"
"It's not like it's heavy," I scoff, pilling up 5 boxes on the ground before lifting them myself.
The three of us head to the elevator to go to our floor. Two movers enter behind us, amazed at how much we're lifting.
"It's not that it's heavy, it's that I can't fit it through the door," he huffs in a whisper, squatting down to get in the elevator.
We set the boxes down as the elevator takes us to the top floor, 15th.
"Well, I'm ready for the new adventure here. I wonder if it's any different than Colorado," I speak.
"Warmer," he immediately says.
We laugh as we arrive at our floor, shoving the boxes into the hall and walking into the open door to our apartment. The movers place their boxes in the location our dad tells them. Dylan heads back down to unload more boxes as I lead Luxray to my room.
"This is my room, Lux," I tell my cat.
He enters the room and begins to sniff at his new surroundings. He turns to me, letting out a loud meow. "Rooww!"
"Is that a meow of approval?" I ask, knowing I won't get an answer as he continues to explore. "Have fun being nosy, I'm going to get more boxes."
I exit down the hallway into the dining room to get back to the elevator.
"Wow, you never realize how much stuff you have until you move," mom groans, unwrapping a cabinet of plastic wrap that was protecting the glass.
"Yeah, the movers still have half the first moving truck to unload," I say. "We haven't even gotten to the second."
"I can't believe we loaded two whole semi trucks with our crap. And this condo is much much bigger than our last place," mom says. "How is it that I feel we don't have a lot of room left?"
I laugh. "I got more things in my car. Luxray is exploring."
She nods as I leave to wait for one of the two elevators. Dad comes from the condo and grabs a box, giving me a wink as he leaves back inside. I laugh as my brother appears with more boxes and sets them in the hall. We head back down together.
"You think we'll meet our soulmates here?" Dylan asks.
"That'd be cool, wouldn't it?" I ask, rubbing my left shoulder. "Then we could leave them noticeable."
"Yeah, I can't wait."
We exit, heading outside and immediately see a man rushing away with one of our boxes.
My brother and I look at each other before nodding, already setting up a plan.
I speed in front of him, catching him way off guard. "Hello! It looks like you're taking something that doesn't belong to you. So, we can do this the easy way, the hard way, or the really hard way. The easy way is you give me back my box, and I'll let you go. The hard way is me kicking your ass and still getting the box. Finally, I can make you blind. What'll it be?"
He scoffs out a laugh. "You, kicking my ass? Doubtful."
I give a smile. "You know, I think that box is just my underwear, so you're not really going to profit from it. So, I'd appreciate it if you'd give it back. I'd rather not have to buy all new underwear. That's a lot of money. You know how much underwear costs nowadays? A lot. Not that we can't afford it, it's just a hassle to have to get more. I don't want to have to get physical. So, I'll ask one more time. Give me my box back before I kick your ass."
"I'll take my chances."
"Well, that just won't do, will it brother?" I ask, as Dylan steps up behind the thief.
Dylan punches his palm, creating a loud smack. "No, it won't."
"Now, last chance," I respond. "I'd rather not snap your eardrums and make you go deaf."
"And how will you do that?" the man asks, glancing at my brother who smirks.
"Like so," I respond, wailing out a low C.
He begins to breathe heavy and stumble. "W-what the hell..."
I take the box from his arms and increase my pitch to a G, making him pass out from over exposure.
"Good job, sis," Dylan says, high-fiving me. "You've gotten really good control of your powers. I didn't even hear you screaming."
"It only affects who I want it to affect," I smile, opening the box. "This is the last box from my car and I was right, it is underwear."
We both laugh as we return to our new condo.

The movers finally get everything in the condo and leave us to ourselves. We all slump against the uncovered couch.
"This is a lot of work," Dad sighs.
"No kidding," Mom replies, turning to look at the two of us. "You two don't look tired at all from all that lifting."
"Oh, um, all that working out we do together makes us not really winded anymore!" I blurt out.
"Maybe your father and I should join you," Mom sighs. "Anyway, you two start school on Monday. That gives you two days to prepare."
"They're already a month in at the school," Dad tells us. "We've decided to send you to Midtown High School of Science and Technology since you two love science stuff so much."
"Really?!" Dylan shouts, fist pumping. "Awesome!"
I smile. "I guess we should go get supplies tomorrow. I'll take us to the store. That way we can also scope out the school."
My brother and I fist bump. "Sounds like a plan."
