"Are you sure you're alright?" Connor asked one more time before they ended their Skype chat. "Like do they have everything you need or do I have to do something to-"

"I'm fine Con," Evan told, rolling his eyes. Connor was such a worrywart but that was one quality Connor himself didn't know he had. "Everything here is fine it's just..."

There was a short pause, Evan made sure he locked the door before discussing the important matter so no one would accidentally walk in his conversation. If that were to happen, more issues will rise.

"It's just about Jeremiah," Evan told once he faced the laptop screen again.

"Your baby brother?" Connor asked to confirm, pausing his black nail painting for a second.

"My baby step brother," Evan told to be more specific. "I don't know why but I think... I think he hates me."

"That's weird, why would he?"

"That's the thing Con, I don't know!" Evan whisper shouted. "I tried to think of everything I could've done wrong in the span of three weeks and so far eating the last slice of pizza wasn't actually the problem."

"Be careful now, the quiet ones are always the dangerous ones. We can't tell if he's in a gang or doing drugs..."

"I've never even saw his friends before-- actually I don't even know if he has friends I mean for the past three weeks Paul-- dad wanted to have some family bonding."

"Do you know anything else about your baby brother? Have you seen his room? Does he hide anything under the mattress?"

"No, no and I don't know. It's just there's this one time last week when Jeremy woke up screaming and was pissed like for the whole day. I even caught him talking to himself a lot."

"Yeah, I bet it on drugs," Connor said, admiring his dark nail work. The nail polish was slightly chipped though. "Why else would he do that?"

"Why are you so sure about my step brother using drugs? You don't even know how he looks like!" Evan quipped.

"Looks don't matter in the drug industry," Connor replied.

Just when Evan wanted to reply, his mom shouted from downstairs telling her boys dinner was ready. Ah, yes, boys. He would need getting used to that now since he and Jeremiah live next door to each other.

Connor listened to the sound of a door swinging open and quick footsteps running down the staircase. Whoever Jeremiah was, he sure was in a hurry for something but he doubted that it was dinner.

"I got to go...." Evan said, looking at Connor one last time. "Talk to you later?"

"Yeah, tell me more about this baby brother of yours later, 'kay babe?"

Evan blushed at the pet name.

"Yeah, night Connor."

The dining room was, at least, not quiet since there were voices. It was a good sign that the house wasn't empty and this step dad of his wasn't that bad from what he saw in three weeks. Evan walked in the dining room, sliding to an empty seat hoping he wasn't sitting on Jeremiah's seat. However he was sure about one detail in the room that was missing.

"Where's Jeremiah?" Evan asked his parents.

"Oh, he went out to see Micheal since I told him that the period for family bonding time was over," his stepdad told before munching on food. "I let him go since he couldn't hang out with Michael for three weeks straight and if there's anything that kills him from the inside it's no Micheal."
