Volunteer (Germany)

You stood in front of the shelter doors and let out a long sigh. Your school required you to do community service and you let Feliciano, one of your best friends, talk you into volunteering to take care of shelter animals. You placed your hand against the cold steel of the door and pushed it open. Your nose was met by the smell of multiple animals lined in cages throughout the shelter. You walked to the front of the counter, found no one, and went around the back towards the cages.
A large, white German Shepherd poked its nose through the cage bars and touched your hand. You smiled and bent down to pet it through the bars.

"Vhat are jou doing back here?" A heavy German voice asked from behind you. You squeaked in alarm and turned around. There stood a tall blond with piercing blue eyes, his hair pulled back messily, tiny beads of sweat decorated his body from walking the dogs. You blushed furiously and looked down at your feet."S-sorry." he said reddening too when he noticed he was standing very close to you without a shirt. He backed away and slipped on a black t-shirt. "I-I'm sorry, I'm here as a volunteer and there was no one in the front counter." you explained.

"Ah, vell zhen, come vith me." he said regaining some of his composure. You followed him down a small hallway into a large room lined with cages along the wall. "Now I remember; you're ____ right?" he asked looking at you with his beautiful blue eyes. "Yeah." you answered. "Feliciano told me about jou und I will also be helping jou until I believe jou can handle jourself. By zhe vay, my name iz Ludwig." he explained. "Alright, Ludwig." you smiled. The corners of his mouth tipped up before he led you out the doors into what looked like a nature walk. "Wow." you said gawking at everything around you. "Vell, lets get to vork." Ludwig said handing you a dog leash.

"Stop pulling Baker!" you yelled at the tugging white German Shepherd you had seen before. The last few weeks of volunteering at the shelter with Ludwig have been the best way to spend you extra time. Ludwig and you would always partner up together to walk the dogs (and spend time with each other of course). During this time, both of you had become close friends. Ludwig chuckled as he walked by your side, a husky trailing in front of him.

"What are you laughing about?" you asked as you struggled to prevent Baker from pulling you to the ground.
"Nozhing" he said. "If he keeps up this behavior, he'll never get adopted." you sighed, scratching Baker behind the ear. Baker tilted his head up and licked the ends of your fingers. You giggled at this as both Ludwig and you sat down to rest. "Lets head back before it gets dark, ja?" Ludwig asked after a few minutes of resting. "Sure" you smiled.

Both of you got up and you bent to dust off the dirt on your already stained pants. Baker began sniffing at the other dog and soon, both were playing around running circles around you both. "Calm down Baker! Calm dow-" you said tugging as the dogs ran circles around Ludwig and you, tying you both in the leashes together. Both dogs charged forward, causing Ludwig and you to come tumbling down onto the soft grass. "Ow." you whined rubbing you head. You looked up and immediately felt your cheeks flush red. Ludwig had fallen on top of you and had his face hovering close to your own. Ludwig opened his eyes, a bright shade of red spreading over his face.

"S-sorry ____." he said attempting to stand up. "N-no it's alright." you stuttered trying to move as well. You sat up, causing Ludwig to become unbalanced and fall backwards. "Woah!" you said as the leashes pulled you down with him. You landed with a soft thud against his chest. You lifted your head and found it less than two inches away from Ludwig's own face. Both of you stared at each other for a few seconds, you knew you really liked him, but you didn't know how to tell him or how he felt.

"Erm,____?" he asked. "Yeah?" you asked slowly. "Zhis seems like a veird position to tell jou zhis but I-I vaunted to tell jou somezhing for a vhile now. I like jou..... a lot." he said slowly, turning a ferocious shade of red. You blinked multiple times until you processed what he said. You smiled before leaned forward and pressed your lips on his. He stiffened in surprise but then closed his eyes and kissed you back. "Ich liebe dich" he whispered in your ear.

"I love you too." you said hugging him. He hugged you back and you stayed in each others embraces until you turned to see the two dogs sitting down staring at both of you.
