You heard the doorbell ring. "Coming!" you called setting down your magazine. You quickly finger combed the loose strands of your h/c hair. You jogged downstairs and opened the door to one of your closest friends, Tino. "Hello, ____!" he said brightly. "What's up Tino!" you smiled.

"Just wanted to drop this off." he waved a small, blue envelope in front of you. "It's an invitation to our Christmas party since, you know, we're friends and all." he blushed. You had moved in across the street from the Nordics's house and Toni had been the first person to befriend you. You smiled remembering how you had met:

You had been walking back from a quick visit to the library when you spotted a few guys crowded around something on the floor. Fearing it was another person, you scooted closer to see what was happening. You spotted a fluffy, white tail and heard a painful yip as one of the guys brought his leg down on it. To say the least, you were pissed; how could a group of three to four guys pick on a poor defenseless animal like that?!

Being as angry as you were, you rushed over and using your book as a weapon, you swung it at one of the abuser's shins. Now it was the guy's turn to cry out in pain as you pushed passed them, scooped up the animal and ran.

"You little asshole! You're gonna pay for that!" you heard one of them growl after you as you dodged through the streets. "You're gonna have to catch me first!" you called back, you knew it was a bad idea to provoke them but hey, can't get much worse can it?

You made a sharp turn past an alley that lead to the main roads, the little animal secured in your jacket. You could hear them coming closer and looked around frantically for a quick way out. You spotted a motorcyclist closest to you and decided it was worth the risk: "Drive! Drive!" you said urgently, hopping behind him. The biker had a helmet on and looked startled at your sudden appearance on his bike but started up the engine and quickly sped away when he saw the guys appear from the crowd.

"Uh, miss, where do you live exactly?" the stranger asked after a few moments of silence. You were so relieved that you had forgotten to tell the biker where to go. You apologized quickly and told him your address. "Really?! That's across from where I live!" he said excitedly. "Really?" you blinked, receiving an eager nod from him. You arrive moments later, he helped you step off his motorcycle before taking off his helmet.

You felt your cheeks grow warm as he turned to look at you. "So, what happened back there?" he asked, rather confused. "Oh, well, those idiots were hurting this little guy." you said, revealing the tiny puppy in your jacket. "So I kinda hit them." you explained, giving a half smile. "I'm so sorry for jumping on your bike." you apologized, blushing madly. "No no, it's okay, you saved this little guy didn't you?" he said reaching over to pet the pup's head. "My name is Tino." he grinned broadly. "I'm ____" you said, returning the smile.

It has been almost a year now since you both met. He had offered to show you around and later had introduced the rest of the Nordics to you. Thanks to Tino, you had made quite a few new friend but, despite that, Tino was always your closest friend.

"Need help preparing for the party?" you offered. His eyes lit up: "Sure!" he chirped. "I could use a hand with grocery shopping." he added. "Okay, gimme a sec and I'll be right out." you grinned, dashing inside to find some more suitable clothes. Running up to your bedroom closet, you pulled down the first outfit you saw. You heard movement behind you and turned to find a dog sniffing around: "Hi there Tiny!" you cooed! rubbing her behind the ear. Who knew that the tinny, defenseless puppy that you and Tino had to nurse back to health would grown to be one of the biggest dogs you've ever seen.
