Hi, my name is Rachel Smith. I am 15 years old. I am just an ordinary girl, well, other than my asthma. Asthma is a condition in which your airways narrow and swell and produce extra mucus. This can make breathing difficult and can trigger coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath, so I bring my inhaler everywhere I go.
My parents are extra cautious. I guess they don't want to lose me like my brother. My brother lived to be twelve weeks old before he died of leukemia. I was only two so I didn't know what was going on, but now that I am older I understand. It's a sad thing to think about, but I still think of what he would look like and be like if he were alive right now. His name was Eli. My parents told me they named him that because it sounded so sophisticated it suited the uniform and glasses he was born with on. I never believed that, but I just acted like I did so I wouldn't ruin it. I used to laugh, but I don't anymore. I guess it just makes me think more about him being gone.
