- Miles, what happened to you?

Elisa asked Miles when she saw him going upstairs.

- Oh, nothing you should worry about, my dear. - Miles told Elisa but not really turning around to face her. - I went to see her. I told you love hurts.

She didn't know what to do.

Miles woke up.

His head was hurting and he was cold.

It had started raining.

- Argh.

He tried to get up: too dizzy.

Then he put his hand on his forehead and winced. His fingertips were red.

- Next time I put my hands on that woman I will kill her. - He said in a low voice.

Miles gave it a few more minutes and tried to get up again.

He started walking around, trying to remember what side the cab they were in had come from.

He put his hand in his pocket only to find out his wallet wasn't there.

- I'm very sure no French robbed me.

He tried to figure out which way to go by studying the marks of the tires on the ground. No success.

- I really 'ave to figure it out, don't I? The thing is: I always pick wrong. I don't even 'ave a coin to flip!

He sighed.

Miles closed his eyes and thought about what he should do.
He heard a sound and started to pay attention.

A car.

Miles started waving to the driver and made him stop.

- I'm sorry. - Miles said, approaching the car. - Are you going downtown?
- Oui. - The driver looked a bit alarmed.
- Do you think I could get a ride there?

The man looked at Miles for a moment.

- Oui, of course. Get in.

Miles walked around the car and got into the passenger seat.

- How did you get lost? - The driver asked, looking at Miles from the corner of his eye.
- I was in a cab and the driver dropped off me here. I don't remember much after that. - Miles lied about the last part.
- You should tell the police. I know this road is not as safe as it used to be but I really think you should go to the police.
- And I will. - Miles lied again. - I just need to get this thing in my head cleaned and maybe stitched and then I will go to them.
- My wife is a seamstress and she said she needed some things in order to finish a dress so she gave me a list. I wasn't planning to go to the city today but she made me go. You are very lucky... it's cold and I don't think you would make it back to the city until the end of the afternoon.
- Yeah. I'm very thankful.

Miles just wished the man would shut up but then again he knew that the man was probably nervous about being alone with a bloody stranger.

Literally bloody.

- Where are you staying in the city?
- Near the Champs-Élysées. - Miles tried to make that sound right.
- Alright.

Miles put his head under the tap in the bathroom, he had no time to lose anymore.

- At least it's not bleeding anymore...
