Spotlights burst color from every direction of the humongous coronation of 4 girls into rockstar royalty. She glanced at her friends' whos' faces were there powdered in blush and their curled hair covering every inch of their face. Demi looked at her friends' garments. Rachel was thrill-seeking/rebellious green, Mabel a daydreaming diva in purple, Eleanor innocently tragic in blue and Demi looking awkward in orange.
Fangirls screamed as one man introduced the act, surprising Demi and her friends. They took deep breaths. They were so terrified they could hear the tick of the clock from the back of the stadium: every second was a minute, every minute was an hour and every hour was an eternity. Hold on, everything stopped.
Demi stared at her peer and the crowd mimicking the tick of the clock. What was happening? The lights were flashing a myriad of colors.
"It's time to wake up! Rise and shine, or we are going to be late!" exclaimed Mabel
"I am so excited!" groaned Eleanor. "Are you excited, Demi? Don't you want to meet Luke Skylar?"
"Like he would want to talk to us" laughed Mabel.
"You never know," said Rachel, staring at the clothes in her suitcase and refolding them. "I for one intend to take full advantage of the situation girls."
"You have no shame" laughed Mabel, throwing a pillow at her.
Rachel artfully dodged.
"You're right," said Rachel. "I have no shame. It's not like soulmates exist anyway. Guys give girls like us a hard time for having emotions and being all sappy, running away to foreign wives and leading us to the shrink's office. So why should I complain? Better to be rich and unhappy, than poor and unhappy."
The girls said nothing to this except quietly contemplated their own lack of romance in their lives. When they finally got their suitcases packed, they strolled out of their hotel room and went downstairs to have a continental breakfast. They checked out with the hotel's front desk and strolled out to a taxi cab that took them to Heathrow Airport.
They made it to their gate on time. With nothing to do and dreams of Los Angeles making the thought of flying on a plane more terrifying than exciting, Demi left the group in search of a book to take on the plane.
Demi breathed a sigh of relief as she entered the bookstore. Though singing was her passion, books were her comfort. She searched through the titles, gently handing each book and peering through the pages. Finally, she came across a book that caught her eye.
The bookstore shopowner watched as Demi picked up the book Sky Voyagers, and made a "Hmmm" sound.
Demi turned to the sound of the woman.
"It seems interesting enough," said Demi.
"It is 'interesting enough' to you because you don't know the full story. Do you know what this story was unauthored?"
"Hmm," said Demi. "Interesting." She didn't really want to talk to the shop lady.
"Yes," said the lady. "They found it in the 1920's. It was written like a diary, but the events in the story seem so improbable that nobody wants to acknowledge it as being real."
That was more interesting. Demi bought the book.
Finally, the plane arrived and people were allowed to board. Demi and her friends got separate seats, so she was placed next to an old man that kept staring at her body. Creeped out by his looks and smell, Demi opened up the book and began to read.
