"Can I have a chocolate milkshake and the onion rings?" The redhead waitress nods at Violet before turning to me and Lucas.
"Uhh, I'll have a strawberry smoothie, a vanilla ice cream cone, a double bacon burger, some chicken tenders, a side of tator tots, and...a side of fries." Lucas orders, handing his menu to the waitress. He always did order too much. I look at the menu. For some reason I don't feel like eating anything but we're already here so I might as well.
"I'll just have a small oreo milkshake." I say, handing my menu to the waitress as well.
We were sitting in a booth in the corner of our favorite cafe. It was extremely loud, like always, and there was a group of boys sitting a couple tables away. Other than that it was pretty empty.
"Okay. I'll bring you your drinks shortly." She replies with a smile before walking away. I sigh and look at my friends who are sitting on the opposite side of the booth.
Hmm, they don't seem to happy with me. But why? Violet opens her mouth to say something. Looks like I'm going to find out.
"What the hell are you doing? I drove you all the way here and all you order is an oreo milkshake? And not to mention a small!? Where is your respect?"
Okay first of all, she was totally exaggerating, as it only took her five minutes to drive here. The Sunset Cafe was literally down the street from our school and it was where everybody at our school hung out after school. Second, is it my fault that 'Paradox', or so they call themselves, was haunting our school?
No. So you can't blame me for losing my appetite after what went down today. Even though I took down the photo, I'm pretty sure Paradox is going to put a new one up anyway. You know what they say, once you get a taste of something, you pretty much can't stop. Please let this not be the case because what I really need is for my high school years to be spent cowering from some murderer in our school. Note the extreme sarcasm. And not to men-
"Earth to Emily!" Lucas calls while waving his hands in front of my face. I snap out of my thoughts and roll my eyes at him. "Are you okay? You seem a little out of it." he asks, a hint of concern in his eyes.
"No, I was just thinking about the whole Death Board situation at school." I answer.
"Yeah, what's up with that? Kinda stupid if u ask me." How is he not taking this seriously!? Like, hello? Did you see what happened to Snowy.
"Lucas this is serious. I mean, look at Snowy. She was probably one of the nicest people in the school and where is she now? Six feet underground."
Lucas's face instantly hardens. Oh by the way did I mention that Lucas dated Snowy for a while? No? Well I'm telling you now.
From what I saw, they were an awesome couple. Lucas was always happy whenever he was around Snowy and vice versa. I had to sit next to Lucas during chemistry and listen to him babble on about how great things with Snowy were.
Now that I think about it, I'm actually not sure why they ended things. One day Lucas was as lovestruck as always, and the next he was moping around and eating ice cream in his sweats. Believe me, that was NOT a pretty sight. And they say girls take breakups hard.
"Can we not talk about Snowy? It's still kinda a sore subject for me..." He trails off his gaze fixed outside the window.
"Yeah, what happened with you and Snowy, you guys were good one second and the next, bam! You guys broke up." Exactly what I was thinking, only unlike Violet, I didn't have the guts to ask. Bless her soul.
