The Accident

Maya told Lucas to choose Riley and he did. She wasn't as happy about it as she let on, but Josh was a nice distraction. Besides, she's always known how she felt about Josh and now he likes her back. They're not dating, but Riley and Lucas are. Let's see how it goes.

Maya POV:

I got the call at 2:41AM that Lucas was in the hospital. I didn't even think to change. I showed up at the hospital in my pajamas with no makeup on and my hair in a literal knot. It didn't matter.

Mrs. Friar- "Hello. You must be Maya. I recognize by the blond hair. I'm Lucas' mother."

Maya- "Hi nice to meet you. Do you know what's wrong with him?"

Mrs Friar- "Not yet. The doctors are checking now. Someone broke into our house and when he tried to stop them, he got shot."  What? Lucas got shot? I'm trying not to cry because I'm not supposed to care about anything, especially not him. I need to be here to comfort Mrs. Friar whose son was shot. We all need to be here. Speaking of, where is everyone else?

Maya- "I'm so sorry. Um do you know where everyone else is?" She smiles at me weakly.

Mrs. Friar- "You and me are the only ones here I'm afraid." I'm so confused. I'm sure that I wasn't the only one who was notified, so where are they? She must see how confused I am. "It was too early for them and since there's school tomorrow, the parents thought it would be better to break the news in the morning and visit after school." Oh! I didn't know that. It makes sense but I would have come here as soon as I found out so it doesn't make a big difference.

Doctor- "Are you ladies here for Lucas Friar?" We both nod. "He is alive but not doing great otherwise. He's keeps slipping into a coma, but luckily pulling out after a few minutes. He was shot in the lung and it's a miracle that he survived. He will have to stay in the hospital for about 1+ month and then we will be able to discuss based on his recovery. Would you please come with me?" We both nod again and follow him into a small private room. As soon as she sees him, Mrs. Friar breaks down. She holds his hand and begins to sob quietly.

Mrs. Friar- "This is the dumbest thing you have ever done Lucas. I swear to god once you get out of here, I'm locking you in the shed." Wow he wasn't kidding about her. I like it. "I'm so glad you are ok. Your friend Maya is here. She rushed straight out of bed to come see you. She's also very pretty." I can't help but start blushing.

Lucas- "She is very pretty." Lucas! He's awake! Mrs. Friar just starts crying again. I run over and jump onto his hospital bed. If I was any bigger or heavier, it might have hurt him.

Maya- "Lucas! You're awake! Thank Jesus!" He starts laughing.

Lucas- "Well hello to you too shortstack! You're never this excited to see me!" I roll my eyes at him.

Maya- "What were you saying about a shed Mrs. Friar?" She smiles at me and Lucas

Mrs. Friar- "Call me Jane!"  We all take for awhile when Jane says she's going to go buy some food and will come back in 30 minutes. She leaves and me and Lucas keep talking.

Lucas- "So where is everyone else?"

Maya- "Oh you're not happy with me Ranger Rick?"

Lucas- "You know that's not what I meant." He frowns at me and so I mimick his face.

Maya- "I know but you're cute when your annoyed." Did I just say that out loud? Shit! He's dating Riley and I told everyone that I don't still have feelings for him. We tried being a triangle but it was messy and Riley and I's friendship suffered because of it. It was and is much easier for me to just hide my feelings and let Riley and Lucas be happy together.
