Black Veil Brides (and music in general)

As most of you can tell, Black Veil Brides is my favorite band. I have a rant and rave for this topic because there are so many people that hate on them for their look or sound. With any musical act, they can choose to look and sound how ever they want. What should matter to the REAL fans of any musician is the MESSAGE of the music. I hate when people judge music by a poster or a clip of a song.

Why don't we all just take a week of listening to music and be objective by listening to the message? Don't watch music videos, or look up information about the musician(s). Judge by the content. If you don't like the music after listening to it BASED ON THE MESSAGES they give off, then I will agree that you can say you don't like them. Give yourself a good reason. Looks and sound aren't everything. I mean, come on, most of the "older" rock bands don't look and sound the way they did thirty years ago, but their followers still love them because of the music, the message, the compassion and dedication of the musician(s).

Now, back to the main topic of this rant. Personally, I love Black Veil Brides because of the messages they give their fans. Never give in  to the people that hate; you're not alone in the world; people that care about you will be there when you need a saviour; you may have lost it all, but there's a new year's day to start anew soon.

See what I'm getting at? If you were to search Black Veil Brides on Youtube or Google, you'd see a bunch of guys in black makeup and tattoos. I like wearing black makeup and having tattoos, too. But that's not the reason I listen to them. The reason I listen to them is that I had a lot of loss at one time in my life. Everyone goes through this. But in this case, the song "Mortician's Daughter" made an exact connection in the time of my cousin's passing. I heard it, and I fell in love with the feeling I had. I'd wanted to cry, and I believe I did, but I felt better. And in that time, I was also being bullied for being a "nerd" and not having many "cool" friends. Did I care, did I cry at night because of those mean people? Yes, I did. But having Black Veil Brides music helped me to cope with the evil that came from others. They taught me to believe in myself. Sure, it took me a long time, about three years, to finally stand up for things and believe in myself. But things don't happen overnight.

Recently, the singer of Black Veil Brides, Andy Biersack, started a solo project called Andy Black, released with the song "They Don't Need To Understand". Now, from the first listen, the song doesn't sound as slow or "rock" as usual Black Veil Brides music. But that's the point. In the interview he did with Hot Topic before the release of the project, he says that this project is supposed to sound different, because he doesn't want to change the sound of the band. Does anyone see a similarity to Ronnie Radke in this idea? He is working on releasing his mixtape, but I have't heard about a breakup of Falling In Reverse!

We all have different views of ourselves at certain stages of our lives. These musicians are doing that exact thing. We want to try something different, with or without giving up on our passions. That's why it hurts me to see comments on the Andy Black videos saying that he sounds like Beiber or One Direction. Sure, he sounds different, but if you're a true fan of Andy, not just for his look or the sound of his music, then it shouldn't matter. The message of the Andy Black song is just a take on a few Black Veil Brides songs, just with an Andy-only twist. I'm personally very proud that Andy was able to realize his changing likes in his music. So to Andy, I say THANK YOU FOR BELIEVING IN YOURSELF. And to those fans of his that enjoy Andy Black, I say THANK YOU FOR HAVING HIS BACK. He needs to know he's still loved by the fans of BVB. We need to have faith in the musicians who inspire us.
