Chapter 5: Its Not What it Looks Like

Today was torture.

I'm a pretty positive person, so for me to call it torture, it has to be REALLLLLY bad.

Which it was.

I forgot to set my alarm so I woke up 20 minutes late this morning. Because of this, I didn't have a lot of time to get ready and look super cute. Which sucks because I planned on looking extra good today. Kinda like a confidence boost to prove I'm over that stupid kiss. I mean really, it was a kiss, with someone whose guts I hate. A lot. Plus there's nothing to get over. I don't like him. He doesn't like me. And that's just the way it should be. Besides, I'm in a semi-relationship. Well, I mean, it isn't official but we've been going out on pretty frequent dates.

But really I don't need to look amazing I guess. Besides, no one's gonna be staring at me anyway today. It's not my birthday, there isn't a science club meeting today, and there's no one I'm trying to impress.

I settled for a flowy gray crop top and denim shorts which I paired with my lucky necklace. It's a simple yet elegant real silver chain with a small (but still authentic) diamond. I slipped on my favorite pair of Adidas and bam, OOTD assembled.

Easy, effortless, decent.

I threw on a quick layer of faded pink lipstick and mascara, grabbed my phone, wallet, and a banana and headed out the door.

My day continued to get worse though. I couldn't find my keys which were usually in my small clutch I keep with me. They weren't there. I looked in my car and realized my keys were still in my car.

Which was locked.

I'm so stupid! I must have left them in the car last night. I was so tired and I just wanted to flop on the couch and spend quality with my best friend (Netflix, and well, Gia too). I bet I left them in the key slot, or whatever that thingy's called.

Gia wasn't answering her phone and my mom was already at work so I had no choice but to take the bus.

It was a cold walk down to the bus stop besides the fact that it was still September. Here in California, it's warm in the fall. But I forgot my light jacket and this morning was unusually cold.

After waiting at the bus stop for several minutes and it hadn't arrived, I checked my phone.

I missed the bus.

I groaned and picked up my backpack, slinging it over my shoulder. Guess I'm walking today. I began walking and I knew I'd be at least 15 minutes late. Thank god I was wearing Adidas since I would have to run if I wanted to make it by second bell. I'm so glad Coach makes us run 3 miles everyday, my endurance and strength for running has improved drastically.

I had only been walking/running for a few minutes when a loud engine was within earshot and a car horn sounded. I looked over my shoulder expecting to see my quick tempered neighbor, probably late for work (again). But it wasn't her. It was a car I'd never seen in the neighborhood before. But it was a really nice car. Makes sense though, my neighborhood is pretty expensive so people that can afford to live here often have expensive cars. This one was black and sleek and looked like a corvette. The person in the car was a guy around my age, probably running late for school too. Kind of an expensive car for such a young student though.

I was surprised when the car pulled up beside me. The window rolled down and I probably stumbled a little. But would you blame me? A hot guy in a hot car was approaching me. Honestly I was kinda scared he might try to mug me.

Wait, why would he need to mug me? He clearly has his finances in check judging by the looks of the guy's car.

"Need a ride El?"
