Her scent leaves the property, I get to my feet and head to the room she gave me. It's a soft coloured room with beige walls, wooden furniture and mostly white, light teal and fake golden accessories.
I pull out the left bedside table and slide out the bottom of the third draw, using the space between the carpeted floor and were the wooden square once was I lay my cloak, a few small leather drawstring bags of healing herbs, miracle substances and dangerous poisons before tucking the gun under and slipping the draws wooden bottom back in its rightful place. After hanging the hoodie in the tall wooden closet I fold and place my pants in a draw within the sliding doors leaving me in the black jumpsuit. I explore the house in my socks, after dropping my boots at the foot of the bed. The other three rooms along the hall are bedrooms, the one opposite mine obviously Kayla and Logans, made up of natural colours, next door is a double young child's room and across is another guests room. Upstairs is a large living room with brown leather couches, dog beds and large floor to ceiling windows, office for working at home and a bathroom. I head back down the stairs only to find another set leading underground. With a wave of curiosity washing over my body I wonder down the steps to be met with a cold metal gym, Logans I assume. Soon I'm back in the living room, the comforting scent of Kayla all around, one long inhale and I discover their back yard has a swimming pool, garden and and spare space of plain grass all contained with white picket fences. I tuck the scrunched up notes into my pocket before exiting the house through the living room window and shift, landing to the cold earth in wolf form. Jumping the fence I quietly gallop down the street, cars picking up speed as they near me.

After only fifteen minutes I near the city centre, only now I notice the slight change of my fur, the once light grey thick fur has a tint of brown to its appearance.
A whistle blows from behind me, I turn to see a strongly built man dressed in brown and maroon padded leather, a black thin fabric cover his eyes leaving a unreadable blank face for me to stare up at. He takes a step forward, his black leather gloved hand dives into his pocket, I catch the scent of an unfamiliar chemical as he pulls out a small dart. Aiming straight at my right shoulder blade he throws, knowing nothing about the chemical gives me all the more reason to stand clear, with a swift side step I avoid the mini weapon. I give a firm bark of warning followed by a snarl before delicately scooping up the dart and running at near full speed to a unassigned location, all I know is he's someone I need to keep away from.
Even though he's not behind me I keep running around the city, only stopping when I pick up Kayla's scent. Following the fresh smell of her unique DNA and familiar vanilla perfume I lead myself five blocks away to the foot of the first tall brick building I leapt to yesterday after the three armed officers came sprinting up the stairs. She sits quietly, legs folded, back against the wall, writing swiftly into her note pad like the information could slip from her grasp at any moment. Gently I place the dart down at the base of a near by tree before emerging from behind a apartment building a few houses down.
Almost instantly she and the others notice me, her small hand grabs a camera and holds it up to her eyes, I continue to walk towards her as she snaps many pictures. Two blue uniformed males come up behind her, unarmed and disorganised, one takes notes as the other speaks into their communication device. She takes cautious steps towards me, eventually she stands a foot in front of me, just above my eye level she briefly hovers her hand in front of my nose before stroking from my head, down the back of my neck, past my shoulder blade and to my chest were she scratches a spot were all dogs are pleasurably weak. Only when she stops I see the flashing red and blue cars bolting towards us, I whine softly then take of, running towards were I emerged and back to the dart. When it's in my possession I start my sprint to the house, going the long way to avoid being tracked.
With grace I jump the back fence and land flawlessly in human form, climbing back in through the window I flop on the couch, with my head buried in the pillow the scent of fabric is overwhelming.
It's only when dogs start barking upstairs that I realise I'm not alone...
Starting with only a single bark it triggers a reaction, jerking my head up from the pillow I quickly discover theres five dogs of different breeds. They all bound down the stairs, discussing what to do as quickly as possible before stopping two meters away they shout their threats all implying for me to get out of their humans home. A man follows swiftly behind them, armed with a metal bat he approaches me with it slug over his shoulder.
Ready to strike.
I hold my hand out as a signal for him to stop, after grabbing the notebook I left on the wooden coffee table I scribble my explanation.
'im Kaylas freind' I write
"You weren't here when I came home, how did you get in?" He asks, the bat now hovering by his side
I point to the open window behind me. He nods.
"Well can I get you anything?" He sighs, heading into the kitchen "Water? Coffee? Tea?" He adds while rummaging around cupboards
And just how does he expect me to reply? A long minute goes by before he renters with a coffee for himself and an extra glass of water.
"I'll take that as water" he smiles, handing me the glass
I return the smile before sculling the water in one go, only just noticing my thirst. We sit in silence for a moment, a large golden retriever lays beside me, head placed on my lap.
"Not much of a talker huh?" He mumbles, sipping his bitter sweet coffee
Immediately I shake my head
'I was born with no vocal cords like Kaylas sister, thats how we met' I scribble a half lie
"Oh, Okay. So what's your name?" He inquires
A key twists in the lock, in pops Kayla with a huge smile on her face, immediately she spots us.
"..Oh hey, babe, your home early.. this is Nicole. I'm so sorry I didn't tell you sooner but she's moving in, her house burnt down and she didn't have insurance" She explains, hanger her beige coat and black bag on a hook
As we continue to make conversation the dogs settle in around us, a Corgi named Patch rests, weaved between my feet, by now the Golden Retriever called Locki has taken over my lap. Two silky Husky crosses, Jinx and Tara snuggle into Kayla leaving Milly the Springer Spaniel to bathe in Logans attention. With Kayla as my voice and occasionally a few scribbled words the conversation consists of the others. I excuse myself before traveling to my room, the small dart in hand. I have around fifteen minutes, according to the five minutes it took me to figure out how long it was until four o'clock, before she takes me out to buy clothing and items to call my own in the city. I sit, cross legged, in the middle of the teal duvet, taking my sweet time to smell the chemicals within the small pointed metal gadget. Many of the individual elements used to create it are similar to those of the three darts the uniformed men attempted to used on me yesterday, only a higher dosage, this dart, unlike the others has enough kick to most likely knock me out for an hour tops. Normal wolves three to four. Large house dogs up to a day. And humans, if given hospital care could leave them unconscious for a few weeks. With my mind made up that it's a tranquilliser dart I place it in the secret draw.
Tying up the last lace of my boots Kayla walks along the hall way, strongly scented with happiness soon entering dressed in her beige coat. She places a pile of clothes and a bottle of sweet scenting perfume at the end of the bed.
"I can't wait to go shopping with you! First we'll go to the spa... then get you clothes, shoes anything really! I swear I've never been more excited in my life!" She sequels, jumping on the spot
I take the clothes and head into the bathroom down the hall, quickly I change into the textured grey long sleeve top, light grey tights, brown winter coat and beige knee high lace up boots.
After two squirts of the elegant rose perfume I place the small glass vile on the vanity then drop my clothes in the woven laundry basket, I brush my lightly knotted hair and wash my face with a white cloth before walking back to my room were Kayla squeals the second I renter.
She sits me down and starts applying thick black liquid to my eyelashes, powder matching my skin tone to red patches spotted across my face then dark red lipstick to my lips, she uses a pencil the same colour to perfect her work before grabbing a mirror to show me my reflection.
Looking at the stranger presented before me only now I notice the facial differences me and my so called identical twin have, worries of being mistaken for her twin float from my mind, leaving their spot that I once thought was permanent is replaced by my new identity as Nicole Stephens .
