As I run down the road the sprits from before beg for my attention. I hault and turn to glare at them.
"How.? Why aren't you like the rest, why aren't you... normal." The older man inquires
To be honest I don't think I was born to be normal. I glance from side to side only to see people, many people walking past. I casually tilt my head in a jester for them to follow. I walk as normally as possible down a alley and behind a stair well.
"So..?"The young male questions, obviously impatient
I place my index finger to my lips before changing to the other side of me.
They're frozen in shock for a good thirty seconds.
"Your that wolf" the young male says, gobsmacked
"How?" The older man asks again
"Ever heard of the Wolf Of Jasmine Forest?" I ask in a mixture of barks and whines
Every sprit can understand others of the undead kind, so as wolf and human I can understand them and they can me as Wolviea.
"Y-your that wolf? I- I must apologise, I hunted you for a good ten years of my real life" the old man stutters
I bow my head in acceptance
"Names?" I ask softly
"I'm Daniel, and this is my Dad Wayne" the young man in about his mid twenties replies
I wait.
"Oh and I died from food poison, intentional. And him from a stroke" he adds
I nod softly before turning to walk back onto the street.
"Wait! You still haven't told us your name" Daniel states the obvious
"I'll tell you if you tell me we're Hatty Drive is" I compromise
"Right at the next corner, straight for three roundabouts then two lefts" Daniel replies, eager to know my mystery name
I nod, making a mental note of his directions.
"Thank you humans. This wolf is Wolviea, and that's all you need to know regarding my name" I explain before darting of with this new found information
I don't care that I'm in wolf form, running through the middle of town making weak, pathetic humans run into shops at the first sight of me.
All I care about is that I might actually find my twin.
After fifteen years... She is still looking for me.
How will she react?
She will be happy right?
Do I tell her I'm the wolf... it could put her and me at risk.
My thinking is cut short when a woman yells, screams a name.
'Harley!'
I turn to see the woman begun to head for the road we're her toddler, I assume Harley, has waddled out to retrieve a shinny pebble.
Instincts kick in.
I lung of from my locked rout to Kayla and dart to the infant. It's a race.
Will I get to the child first?
Or will the Truck?
A new speed sends me near flying to her, I manage to side step to truck as it hurtles past. The little girl cries, the back of her overalls in my mouth hoisting her up of the ground. I turn to the mother that's running towards me, not in fear, but flooded in relief. After grabbing her toddler and holding her close to her chest she uses her free hand to stroke me. I wouldn't have thought human affection felt... nice? I savour the pat for a few seconds before nudging her and the child goodbye and sprinting back and relocating onto my rout to my twin.
Straight.
Left.
Left.
Hatty Drive.
1..2..3..4a..4b
I sprint.
7..8..9..10..11..12..
It's just me and 31, nothing else matters right now.
19..20a..20b..21..22..23..24..
Just about there.
28..29..30..
31.
I halt and shift straight outside a rather large cream coloured house. Before I can run up a young woman dressed in a light grey and purple laced dress exit the house, I duck behind a car and watch her from the edge, she smiles brightly as she talks into a silver device the size of her hand. Before hanging up she blows a kiss then skips down to a car that makes me acknowledge she's well of from money. Her facial features are a near reflection of mine, soft pure brown eyes are the most stunning part of her clear face, framed with light blond hair draping down to just past her shoulders. Only difference between us is that I have a small scar across the side of my face and the fact that she's well kept.
A wave of doubt hits me.
I can't let her know I'm alive.
What was I thinking, I would just put her in danger. I sit behind a car as she pulls away from the curb, I watch my long lost sister drive away. Still unaware that I, her twin still breath. After checking no eyes are on me I shift and jog back to the city.
Slowly I pad down the street, as usual humans getting clear out of my way, sirens scream two blocks away, head straight to restraint the gigantic white wolf. I duck down a ally then climb up eleven flights of stairs. I rest just behind the safety railing, taking in my surroundings with one breath. Soon the sirens come to a stop at the foot of the building, with my muzzle rested on a small concrete edge I relax, my body slightly sore from today's activities, but pain isn't a stranger. Foot steps causally walk up the side stairs, I turn my head and wait to see a officer, probably here just to see if he can spot the wolf from this advantage point, unaware of what he's walking into. As soon as he notices me his scent changes from lazy and relaxed to frozen in fear. I wait from him to finish his little call into the communication device before getting to my paws and stretching. Three more sets for foot steps sprint up the stairs. With ease I hop up onto the safety railing and gracefully leap over the four meter gap separating two office buildings and land with accuracy. I turn to see the four humans stunned, the three new arrivals with the poles. I bark powerfully, a warning to them that I hope they understood. I parkour across buildings, all landing slightly lower until I drop from the tiled roof of a first story building to the ground. I curl up with my back to a building thats packed with alcohol and drunk humans then rest my eyes, hoping no filthy human comes out back. Only seconds later I fall asleep.Word Count: 1116
