Life had a funny way of paying us back what it thought it owed us. Or maybe we just felt like we deserved some form of punishment - some sort of karma for the sins we commit. But is there ever a point where it's too much? Where do we draw the line and say I don't deserve this? When do we walk away?
Gaia didn't realise it yet but as she stormed down the halls of the WICKED compound, fingers clamped in angry fists, she brought herself closer and closer to asking these questions. Unfortunately for her and the others, it wasn't as simple as walking away. After all, how could you walk away when there was no way out? You can't - so you keep going, whether you want to or not.
The other scientists in the halls watched, whispering as the girl passed. Everyone knew why Gaia was angry; they were just waiting to see what she would do.They couldn't even imagine.
Finally reaching her destination, Gaia slammed the door open. Everyone in the room turned to face the intruder, eyes wide, not expecting someone to interrupt their meeting and especially not in such a manner.
"So, as you can see- Gaia?" Ava Paige asked, shocked by the girl's sudden entrance. She was currently in the middle of a presentation to the Board, who were all sitting at a long conference table in the middle of the room.
The teenager unfurled her fingers, then clenched them once more. Walking over, she stopped and stood at the opposite end of the table to Ava Paige, placing her hands on the glass surface to keep herself steady.
"How could you do this?"The woman frowned, the motion tugging at her already tight skin, "I beg your pardon?"
"You promised me," she hissed, her whole body seething in anger. Gaia didn't know she could feel such anger towards a person. Especially somebody she thought she trusted.
With a sigh, Ava Paige turned to the rest of the adults at the table. "Excuse me for a moment."
The woman stepped away from the table and walked towards the teenager, managing to keep her anger in check in front of her peers. She grabbed the girl by the arm and dragged her from the room, nails digging ever so slightly into her skin to warn her off of speaking anymore in front of the room of people.
Letting go of her arm, she forced Gaia to face her. "I hope you realise that you just interrupted a very important meeting, young lady."
Gaia had never seen the woman look so furious - except for maybe one other time when a boy had threatened to ruin the experiment. But it didn't matter because it was no match for what the teenager was feeling.
"I really don't care," Gaia laughed humorlessly, arms crossing in front of her.The woman sighed deeply, seeing this as nothing more than the outburst of a petulant child. "I assume this is to do with your friend's brother?"
"You assume? Is that a joke?" Gaia ground out through clenched teeth. She felt her breathing speed up at how nonchalant the woman was being about the situation. "You promised you wouldn't send him in there. He's just a child."
