Alex and Kate spent the next month planning the wedding. Babs and Dinah had been excited at the news, and kept trying to make the event bigger and more elaborate at every turn. ("I know!" Dinah said. "We'll hire horses and a carriage, and we can strap those unicorn horns you have stashed up in your room to their heads and make it a fairy tale wedding!" Alex had chased her around the apartment until she'd finally caught her, then dropped her in the hot tub. Dinah had chortled the entire time.)Alex and Kate just wanted a simple ceremony with a few friends. They were initially going to have it on the twelve month anniversary of when they got together but decided to hold it a month later than that. They wanted to be healed up for the ceremony (Alex was mostly fine, but Kate's ribs were still a little twinge-y) plus they had a few people out of town that they wanted to wait for so they could attend—Diana and Bruce were off on some planet saving mission, but should be back soon, and Beth, an archeologist, was at a dig, but would be back to civilization by next week. Alex was about to fly herself out in a private plane to go pick up Beth and bring her to Gotham where she could meet, and get to know everyone, before the wedding.
"Do you really have to fly over there to get her?" Kate asked as she helped Alex load a bag into the plane. "I mean, can't she hop a commercial flight?"
"She could," Alex said, "but I want to pick her up myself. I haven't seen Beth since we patched things up before you and I officially got together—just a few phone calls—and I want to talk to her." Alex smiled and kissed Kate. "Your dad is going to walk you down the aisle, Babs and Dinah have agreed to stand up for us, and I want to ask Beth if she'll walk me down the aisle in Emilia's stead." She touched Kate's face. "You understand why I want to do that in person, don't you? Why I want a little bit of time alone with Beth to just...talk it out and explain?"
"Yes," Kate sighed. "I do. I just don't want you to go because I'm selfish and I'll miss you."
They kissed one last time and then Alex climbed up into the plane. "I love you Kate! I'll always love you!" she said before closing the door behind herself. Kate watched until the plane had taxied down the runway and then was up in the air.
