"Don't worry, love," Menalippe murmured as she bent to check the manacles, "I promise I will never forgive you. That way you'll always be here, with me." There was a slightly insane glint in her eye when she stood back up.

"Please," a hoarse voice begged. "Please, Menalippe. Let me go. Or kill me. Don't make me live like this, chained in a cave."

"Now, now, Penelope," Menalippe said as she strode toward the cave entrance. "Everything will be okay. You'll see. We're together again. We'll be together forever. They all think I forgave you, and that you vanished like all those men. No one will ever look for you." Penelope could hear her giggles as they disappeared down the long trail back to the village.

"Please!" Penelope yelled. "Someone! Please! Don't leave me here!"
