I dreamed of nothing that night, although I heard the voices, they were gradually muffled by an unknown power. Her power. I opened my eyes to a sunbathed bedroom, Elise was asleep in a chair next to my bed, still holding on to my hand as if she never stopped channeling her abilities to me. I slowly slipped my hand out of hers and walked downstairs. Diana was cooking and Hudson was writing on a small piece of paper. An envelope. I realized as I went closer. He noticed my movement and turned to face me. "Hey, Evan. Good to see that you're awake." He said. He then saw my questioning look and seemed to remember the envelope on the table. "It's for my parents, I just hope they're not scared to death for me." He said sincerely. I only nodded, not having the strength to speak. Diana set a few plates down on the table. "How did you sleep, Evan?" She asked. "Dreamless." was all I replied. I then heard rushed footsteps coming down against the stairs. "Mom! Evan, He's gone!" I heard Elise say before she came down the final step. She saw me next to Diana and sighed, "Never mind." She said as she slugged me on the forearm. "Ow!" I yelled while rubbing my hurting arm. "Don't scare me like that, then! I thought you were taken while I was asleep!" She exclaimed. Diana chuckled. "What's so funny?" Elise asked. "Oh, nothing. Now have some of the breakfast I made." She replied. "But what about Helix? We can't just act normal when they're hunting me down!" I exclaimed. "Us, Evan, and we can't do anything yet. I'm sorry, but we're not ready to face them, You're not ready to face them." Diana replied. A fierce tug pulled the air out of me. No, stay in control! I ordered myself. Elise slipped her hand around mine, weakening the pull. Air began to refill as I sucked in a breath. Diana watched with deep concern. "Sorry." I muttered. Diana then carefully grabbed my arm. "It's a start, Evan. Soon you'll learn to calm the darkness on your own. I know it." I sighed. "Wait, you know what's happening with me? Losing control and all?" I asked. She nodded. "She's not the only telepathically skilled witch here, Evan." She said with a smile. I turned my gaze to the ground, wondering what she'd see within my head. "I know it's hard not to fight back against them, Evan. Especially after what they've taken from you." She said softly, anguish weighing the words down. I stayed silent. Elise gripped my hand tightly. She knows what I'm feeling. I thought. She nodded, then leaned her head against my arm. "It'll be okay, I promise you." She said softly into my ear. "Don't make a promise the world won't let you keep. Bad things will happen, but the best thing to do is be strong enough to stand in the aftermath." I muttered. "Then I'll make sure we're both strong enough to survive the world together." She said with determination. I smiled, but hid the truth from her, from within my mind and outside of it.

She knew that one would walk out of this tower. She formed a barrier around herself and made a strong shield around Mavis. She then set her down and teleported behind the Witch. She formed her Scythe and attacked. The Witch quickly darted out of the way and unsheathed two silver daggers from a hidden hilt, she then launched them at the mage, hitting directly into her leg and knocking the Scythe out of her grasp. The Witch drew closer, holding a new dagger in her hand. The mage, quickly and suddenly, plunged a dagger through the Witch's leg, bringing her to a kneel. The mage saw her own skin reattach itself as it began to heal nearly instantaneously. She began to stand herself upright and grab her Scythe. She then pointed its head at the Witch. "This is my kingdom now. Leave, or face your consequences." She hissed. The Witch began to laugh. "It was never your kingdom, Mage. I assure you. Soon it will be your last days on this land."
Her blood was strewn on the ground beneath her.
